Daily kosher items succeed at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe

BAY LAKE, FL (Eyes and Ears) -- Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe at the Magic Kingdom Park has successfully introduced kosher food to its regular quick-service menu.
The term kosher food refers to certain animals that can be eaten and certain processes of food preparation in accordance with Jewish rituals.
"In the past, a guest who wanted kosher food had to dine in one of our table-service restaurants," said Jackie Grass, Food and Beverage area manager. "If they came to the park today and decided they wanted kosher food, it'd be difficult, because it would take time to call the restaurant ahead, and the restaurant would have to acquire the meals, prepare them and arrange priority seating."
About a year and a half ago, Magic Kingdom Food and Beverage leaders began devising ways to serve kosher food that could be prepared almost immediately in quick-service restaurants.
"We developed a plan using high-powered microwaves that make it easy for us to prepare them," Jackie said.
The quick service kosher menu features hot dogs, beef burgers and corn beef sandwiches.
Jackie said the menu, which the restaurant began offering in February, has been very successful.
"More and more people are calling and asking about our menu," Jackie said. "We serve about 20 meals a day. At first, we had little advertising, but we've now gone all over property sharing our menus with Guest Relations, Guest Services? getting the word out. There's definitely a demand for it, and we'll see where we go in terms of expanding to other quick-service restaurants from here."
