Is anyone else as excited as I am about this camera? The entry level full frame from Nikon should be announced tomorrow. Its of course all speculation but here are the rumored specs:

Those new Nikon D600 and WU-1b images and detailed specs were just published in a Malaysian forum:

Sensor: 24,3MP CMOS Total: 24.7 million
Image size
FX 36mm x 24mm :
6,016 x 4,016 (L) 4,512 x 3,008 (M) 3,008 x 2,008 (S)

DX 24mm x 16mm
3,936 x 2,624 (L) 2,944 x 1,968 (M) 1,968 x 1,312 (S)

FX-format photographs taken in movie live view :
6,016 x 3,376 (L) 4,512 x 2,528 (M) 3,008 x 1,688 (S)

DX-format photographs in movie live view :
3,936 x 2,224 (L) 2,944 x 1,664 (M) 1,968 x 1,112 (S)

ISO 100 ~ 6,400. ( 50 - 25600)
Finder: 100% coverage.
AF: 39 points.
Shutter: 1/4,000 ~ 30 sec, bulb. Carbon fiber and Kevlar, tested to 150,000 cycles.
2,016-Segment RGB Meter
Flash Sync: 1/200. Built-in Flash
Frame Rate: 5,5 FPS.
Rear LCD: Exquisite 3.2," 921,000 pixels.
Video
The Nikon D600 can capture Full HD (1080p; 1,920 x 1,080 pixel) video at either 24, 25 or 30 frames per. For 720p (1,280 x 720 pixel) video, a rate of 60 frames per second is possible. Video can either be shot using data from pixels across the entire width of the image sensor in FX mode, or with a 1.5x (DX-format) focal length crop, taking data from the center of the imager, without affecting the video resolution.
Videos are recorded using H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC format compression, maximum clip length is 29 minutes, 59. Even more unusually, it's possible to have the live feed piped to the D600's HDMI port as an uncompressed full HD signal, allowing it to be recorded using an external device and/or routed to an external monitor. If desired, this signal can be mirrored on the camera's own LCD display at the same time; the off-camera feed doesn't have any overlays added, so as not to impact external recording devices.
And the time-lapse photography function can be used to automatically photograph relatively slow moving action
HDMI HD output
White Balance
"The D600's intelligent auto white balance algorithm renders white as truly white even when shot under a wide range of light sources, including mercury vapor light. The D600 analyzes color and brightness information of the scene before shooting utilizing Scene Recognition System, and detects the light source highly accurately by referencing its massive collection of in-camera shooting data. The D600 also carries another auto white balance mode that maintains warm lighting ambience when you shoot under incandescent light"

Auto (2 types), 2500 K-10000 K
Power
EN-EL15, standard; same as D7000 and D800.

Connect with smart devices through the Wireless Mobile Adapter (Android and iOS devices )
Nikon announced an optional Wi-Fi transmitter for the camera. The WU-XX clips into the USB socket of the D600 and allows you to broadcast its images to smartphones and tablets running a Nikon app. The unit allows the camera's live view output to be streamed to the smart device and allows images to be shot remotely. The WU-XX immediately transfers photos and also allows you to upload them to social networks to share with friends and family
Android smartphones and iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

no, unfortunately I'm not....

I'll have to see how the ISO tests out, otherwise you're just paying a little more money for the "full frame" sensor. With the D3s, D800, and D4 you aren't just paying for full frame, those suckers really push ISO performance.

I sold my D700, the ISO wasn't all that much better than my D7000.

For me it all depends on the price point. If it is supposedly around the D7000 range..i'm sold.

It's 1600 bucks... But if you already have a D7000 it isn't worth upgrading, just for a full frame sensor. I think a lot of people have this notion they're getting a pro camera at a low price point. I'll have to see what the testing says, but this has prosumer written all over it

At least it's a reasonable amount on MPs. 24 is still unnecessarily high but it's not as bad as some of the other stuff that's out right now. Unfortunately I agree though, if it's going to be that *cheap* there is probably a good reason for it. It seems like all the manufacturers right now are just throwing things out left and right just hoping people will buy them instead of taking the time and developing a camera people actually want. Even though I love Apple products they've done the same thing for the last 5 years and it drives me nuts!

I'm in the same boat... FX for under 2 grand? Petapixel is claiming it will be less than the D300s when that was released.

I don't need a full frame just to have a full frame, hell I sold my D700 because it wasn't that great at all.

I want a pro rig... I want pro features, not just a full frame FX sensor.

ps, notice it has the "scene wheel" ... clearly intended for people who just have money to burn and not advanced shooters.

I am pretty sure they are already killing the D7000 (for either a D7100 or just maybe for the D600)...I think that it may be a good "bridge" to get people into full frame as it SUPPOSEDLY will perform well with both crop and full lenses. We will find out for sure most likely later today. If rumors are to believed, it will be on the shelves within 2 weeks.

And yes..that full frame point n shoot is nice...but we at work here are more interested in the full frame camcorders they announced as well ;)

I wonder how many MP's would be cut when using the camera in DX mode

That Sony is definitely interesting. Could be a great option to have in a couple years after they work out the potential bugs. I would love to have the quality of an FX sensor in a p&s, heck I'd love the quality of a DX in a p&s! And not being able to swap lenses isn't a deal-breaker for me if the size and image quality are there.

many believe that Sony is testing the marketplace, much like FUJI with the X100. Once there is enough buzz, they'll move forward with a removable lens system, again much like the FUJI Xpro1

Price came out last night / this morning... 2100 bucks. Petapixel and all of the other sites were way off on the speculation of the price.

I'd rather spend an extra 900 and get a D800

I'm personally sold on it. Yes the d800 isnt much more expensive..but the megapixels are just WAY too high and I would also end up paying more for storage. Here is a review of the cam along with samples:

http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/13/nikon-d600-full-frame-dslr/

I'll be getting the body only..most likely towards november.
It seems pretty comparable to the Canon 5D mk2 which is pretty highly regarded, although now 'outdated'. From what I've read (haven't shot with either) it seems like the new 5D mk3 is blowing everything out of the water, including the D800. My mind isn't blown by the D600, hopefully Nikon picks up it's game pretty soon!

I'm quite tempted by this. I've got the D300 and a second body would be really handy and been waiting to see what this would be like. The specs aren't too bad, although, for some of the sport stuff ive done, 1/4000 is a bit slow, but could get round that. It has also just had a price drop of about £300. It came out here at £1980 when the US price was $2064 or something. The fact it is now £1670 makes it even more tempting.

Only issue, is the layout of buttons, and the 'consumer' shooting mode wheel which are different to my D300 which will take some getting used to.

Will hang fire for reviews first, and if there are any more details about the rumoured D400.

I just the digital rev review yesterday..actually was decent. Its getting good reviews...but the ONLY thing keeping me from it right now is a lack of owned lenses. I am aware I can ebay some old model nikons that will work just fine, but its just an added cost to the initial investment. I will make my final decision when I get my hands on one hopefully this weekend :)
