D23 Expo - and other rants!

Rant 1: I got an email about a D23 Expo in Anaheim. I live in Florida close to another Disney property, so an Anaheim expo doesn't do anything for me. I'd rather just pay extra for tickets than pay money up front and HOPE a D23 event happens at WDW before my 1yr of D23 expires.

Rant 2: What's also annoying is when I click on the link it asks me to login instead of telling me anything about the event. So basically Disney spams ex-D23 members regardless of their status.

Rant 3: At the bottom of the website it reads-- Please refrain from using your browser's "Back" button during the registration process.

I'm sorry Disney, but it's time to hire some real web developers. It's a two line script to recover from a dreaded "back button" press, and there's no reason to warn people not to hit the back button. This was a problem back in the late 90's, but not anymore. All this tells me is you don't know anything about website programming, and there's a good chance I'll spend all night on the phone with a Disney rep to confirm my tickets.

Continuation of rants: I'll refrain from going into how bad other Disney online properties are, but you know the drill if you've ever made an online reservation, dining reservation, or ordered from the Disney Store.

Yea, D23 does tend to have problems for some reason; it gave my friend problems and it's been over a week and Disney refunded the purchase for some reason and when I called in they said it hadn't been processed (keep in mind that the site said 7-10 days for my card to ARRIVE, not ship).

We'll see if the trouble is worth it.

I hear ya.

If their sites weren't so busy running 50,000 javascripts, images, banners and flash files on every page load, they could probably handle putting your data in a little session for a few minutes.

I'd say that the D23 Expo in Anaheim is a huge event that Disney understands transcends the local community in Anaheim. If they were spamming you with a less significant event I could definitely understand.

The other two points are valid.

yeah and dont you love how they apparently are not selling the tickets until next year for Destination D? Love how they allow no real time to plan for that... in my case I immediately called DVC and booked the weekend at BLT since the event will be at the CR, but still...what If I cannot get tickets? lol

I bought my D23 membership and Destination D tickets for the Anaheim event this year just a couple of weeks before the event, no problem. I think that Magic & Merriment this year at WDW sold out very quickly, but that event has a smaller capacity. You'll know ahead of time when tickets are going on sale for Destination D. I really don't see this as a problem.

Just called for the 3rd time--the person yesterday never responded.

Luckily, I got a valid reason this time, which is that they haven't sent them out yet because they're extremely late with orders, and they're trying to catch up and then attend to the new customers.

Seems lame on their part, but at least it's a reason.

I agree the Disney sites are terrible to browse. Way too much stuff happening on each page. I really don't know what to do now. I have a room booked for D23 in Anaheim but now that Destination D is happening, I don't know which to choose. Blah. I wish they'd update the site with a schedule of events. How are you supposed to plan if you don't know what is going on?

Destination D in Anaheim this year was great, but if I had to choose between Destination D 2011 in WDW and the D23 Expo in Anaheim, I'd definitely choose the D23 Expo.

While we are complaining about how bad the Disney web presence is let me thrown in a small complaint about DisneyStore.com. For the past 3 times I have attempted to make a purchase from it, it fails to accept any of my debit or credit cards and always makes me purchase the items over the phone...what gives?? Small complaint but still...come on...:brick:

Well I hope that is the case....WDW events have been hard to get into....

Not if you lived in Florida! :) Quite a cost difference lol
