LOS ANGELES -- Walt Disney Co. (NYSEIS - News) plans to announce that Cynthia Harriss, president of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif., has resigned for personal reasons, according to people familiar with the matter.
The departure of Ms. Harriss marks the first major change in Disney's theme park management since Jay Rasulo took over as president of Disney's parks and resorts unit last year. Ms. Harriss will be replaced by Matt Ouimet, currently president of Disney Cruise Line and a veteran executive at the company.
With Mr. Ouimet taking over in Anaheim, Disney is set to name Karl Holz, senior vice president of Walt Disney World operations, to take over as president of Disney Cruise Line.
The management shakeup comes at a crucial time for both Disneyland and the broader Disney parks unit. All of Disney's theme parks are still suffering from the effects of the travel downturn that followed the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. And Disneyland is in the midst of planning a marketing blitz pegged to the park's 50th anniversary in 2005.
