Currency question

Has anyone been on a Northern Europe cruise previously? If so, what currency did you take? Just dollars and euros or did you take kroner, krona and roubles too? What are exchange rates generally like onboard? Thanks for any advice 😀

Hi Dids! I've done a couple of Baltic sailings with Disney. You can read my trip report from the most recent one here: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/iceland-fjords-and-aad-adventures-after-disney.902207/ Our first trip is this one: http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/dcl-northern-capitals-cruise-july-2010.744799/

We took Euros with us and then exchanged small amounts for Krona and rubles while onboard. Most of our purchases were done with a credit card that didn't charge an exchange fee. So we only needed cash for coffee shops, tips, etc.

I honestly don't have any memory of the exchange rate on the ship. But what I do remember is that if you exchanged the money on the ship, they would exchange it back to your original currency at the same rate. So even if the rate changed during the cruise, you wouldn't lose money.

Thanks for the really helpful response Chuck. We’re spending a few days in Copenhagen before boarding so will take kroner, euros and dollars alongside our cards then. Good to hear that currency is exchanged back at the original rate - the way things are in the UK politically at the moment, absolutely anything could happen to sterling!
