Curious about the Oddessy

The first time I visited WDW in '94 I had dinner in the Oddessy Resturant but learned that not long after my visit it had been closed. Even for as in depth as the discussions get about All Things Disney here I've still not heard much about it except that it is now used sometimes for private parties.

SO...

In it's heyday...What did it serve? Was it counter service or sit-down? Was it known as being any good?

When I ate there I remember chicken sandwiches and burgers...And I remember the food not fitting in AT ALL with the surroundings...Which seemed kinda nice.

I was just hoping someone could shed a little more light on an old WDW memory of mine...

Good Question!

I was at Disney in August of '94 and Oddessey wasn't open during our visit...I'd really like to know more about it!

For what I remember, I had lunch there a few times when I went to Epcot with my family. It was a place for fast food, burgers, hot dogs, salads. They had this service stations with all the toppings and they had this delicious cheese sauce that I loved.

When I went back in 1998 to work there, it was used for special events, training sessions for cast members, presentations, etc. It even has dressing rooms on the second floor conected to a stage, and a light and sound booth (like for a D.J.). The show kitchen is used for banquets and for the Food and Wine festival for the Grand Pairings and cooking sessions and for events like those.

I can only speak for myself, but for me it does help a bit... I guess I'm just really hoping to get inside the place someday. Call it a challenge I suppose - it's this place that's been there for as long as I've been visiting, yet I can't go inside

I really want to see the inside!

It´s really no big deal... it´s just a place almost round, with three different levels, a stage and a show kitchen in the back/entrance.

The thing that always amazed me when I had seminars there, was that you can´t hear anything of what´s going in the park... you almost forget that you are in Epcot!

You can take a peek if you go to the bathrooms near it. If you are coming from Future World to WSC, there is a bridge that takes you to the Odyssey. When you get to it, there are restrooms on the left side of the building. If you get to those, they are connected to it and actually those are the restrooms inside of it, so you can take a peek. Most likely, you will hear noises from the show kitchen if it´s being used for a banquet. They used to cook there for events in or out of the Odyssey. I wouldn´t encourage you to walk around the place though... there is always security in and around and it would be embarrasing if they kick you out of there. :animwink:

See, I've actually used the facilities that you're speaking of many times....they're the closest ones to my fav "beer drinking & people watching" spot. From the glimpses I got of this place I've never seen even open, I just became curious for more! Anyone have any pics of the inside?

I have pictures of seminars I took and organized there, but I have no scanner, so I´ll see if I can take a pic of those pics with my digital...they won´t be too good, but you will get the idea. :animwink:
