Hi guys, I was just wondering are the crowds bad on the 4th of July? My 30th birthday is on July 6th and teh wife and I are thinking about bringing our girls down for my birthday that week, but if the crowds are really bad we may want to plan for a different time. Thanks for the help.

Honestly, the crowds are horrible. It's one of the most crowded times of the year. When I was on my CP my parents came down for 4th of July weekend (my dad's birthday is also July 6th, although he's a little older than you), it was packed. I worked in Fantasyland, so we had the ability to walk onto all of those rides. Plus my parents don't ride thrill rides, so we bipassed those. We were lucky enough to have that working to our advantage. But the crowds are heavy, and parts of the parks tend to turn to gridlock mid-afternoon. If you want to go during the summer, when your girls our out of school, I would suggest going during mid to late August. The crowds are a little lighter then.

Thanks for teh feedback Beth. Is it the whole week or just that day?

Pretty much the whole week. I went a couple times when I was younger over the 4th, and it's always been crowded. Sorry :brick:

We went to MK on the 4th in 2003. The crowds were unbelievable. They actually stopped letting people in at noon time. I don't want to discourage you from going, because I am glad we went. There was something absolutely magical about being there on the 4th. The fireworks were spectacular! But if you are at all turned off by crowds, you may want to reconsider. You probably won't get to go on very many rides, especially the big thrill rides. We spent most of our day on the TTA. My son was two at the time and he couldn't get enough of it.

I was there 4th of July 2001. On the 4th we didn't even bother with a park. MK was closed by 10AM! We spent the day shopping at the marketplace and it was very nice. We had dinner at Narcoossee's at the GF and then they let the diners on their deck for a very un-crowded showing on MK's fireworks. It was extra nice because on the 4th fireworks also come from around the lagoon so we got to see everything. And they piped in the music. It was a very relaxing day because we avoided the parks. The rest of the week was crowded but not unbearably so. Of course we usually go at Easter so we're a little jaded.

I went this past year on the 4th of July, and it was crowded. We spent the morning at Animal Kingdom, where the crowds were not that bad. Then headed to Epcot in the afternoon for a little bit, the crowds were manageable there as well. During the afternoon, a bad thunderstorm came through and the parks cleared out a bit. We went back to the hotel for a rest during the storm and then were able to get into the Magic Kingdom around dinner time. At MK, the crowds were insane but the fireworks were incredible, so it was well worth dealing with the crowds. If you stay late, most of the crowd clears out after the fireworks, and you can get onto most rides without an extensive wait. MK was open until 2am, I think, so you can do a lot of stuff if you want to stay late.
