crowds for marathons

The WDW marathon is the weekend after our trip, we will be there the 3rd though the 9th and the marathon will be the 10th, 11th and 12th. The expos and activities start the 8th and that will be our last day in the parks. Will the crowds be outrageous? What should we expect? Our last day will be in the magic kingdom and I was really looking forward to low crowds, but I am beginning to think that won't be the case.

The marathon should not affect park crowds, although it has been known to affect traffic, especially first thing in the morning.

Touringplans.com crowd calendar has the overall crowds as a 9 on Jan 3 and 4, a 6 on Jan 5-6, a 3 on Jan 7, a 1 on Jan 8-9, and a 2 on Jan 10-11.

They rate the MK a 1.6 on Jan 8.

I don't think you need to worry.

We've been part of the marathon crowds for years. Really, the parks aren't crowded, except on Saturday...MK is full of the locals, if the weather is nice. Other than that it has been a wonderful time to go to the parks.

Many people there for the half and full marathon will take it easy around the race. The biggest issues will be traffic around WWoS while people are dealing with the Expo (not something most park guests will notice), and getting to early morning reservations/park openings Sat/Sun. Simply allow for extra travel time those two days, and take Disney transit when possible, and you should be fine.
