Wow. I was pretty sure this is a good week to be Disney crowd wise but we were at magic kingdom yesterday and seemed very busy. We are going to try MGM today and Epcot Thursday so we'll see how it goes

Monday & Tuesday it was packed at the Magic Kingdom, but today it wasn't crowded at all. I noticed it also. Other parks like Universal & Busch Gardens haven't been busy at all this week.

Why?

I wonder why the parks seem more crowded? Any suggestions? Maybe the 12-21-12 doomsday prediction is making people go to Disney one last time!

My friend is there now and has been since Sunday. I've been living vicariously through her pics she keeps posting on facebook every second lol.. and it looks crowded in the parks, judging by the pictures. She said they've been sleeping in every morning so they are getting to the parks at peak times so that'll do it.

Crowded is a relative term. There are only a few times during the year when the parks are not busy. Right now it is less busy than the previous Spring Break period, but it's still somewhat busy.
A lot of what the crowd levels appear to be depend on the time of day, the day of the week, and which park it is. I can take a photo at any park, at a certain time of the day, on every day of the year, where it appears that a park is crowded.
It's great time to be at WDW. Moderate crowd levels and not overly hot, come on down.
And if people here now think it's crowded, they should come back in a few weeks, now that's crowded.

A lot better

Went to MGM around 4pm and it was pretty empty. We basically could walk on any ride except toy story. Rode tower of terror and Aerosmith about 4 times each

We'll be there Saturday and the crowds predicted are ranging from 5-8. Last year when we went in May, same week, the crowds were the same 5-8 and it didn't seem that crowded to me. Then again the time I visited before that was Thanksgiving week so anything would seem less crowded to me

I consider it busy when you get there at 11am and they are using a lot of the parking lots at the Magic Kingdom and even have a huge line for the ferryboat and the monorail. The lines at the turnstiles to get into the Magic Kingdom were backed up all the way to the bag check areas. This was the way it was on Monday & Tuesday at the Magic Kingdom. Wednesday was a different experience as it wasn't as crowded and the wait times for Dumbo and Space Mountain were around 15 minutes each. I went over to Epcot that evening and the wait time for Soarin' was 50 minutes at 6pm which isn't bad considering that Test Track is closed.

We were in the MAgic Kingdom for a few hours Saturday and it seemed pretty crowded - wait for Buzz was 30 minutes, and there was even a line for the Peoplemover. Also, wait for The Great Goofiny (or whatever it's being called - daughter needed to ride it since it's been closed for so long) was 20 minutes.

We started the day at EPCOT, and it did seem crowded, too - but we had fastpasses for Soarin' (the only line-type ride we did), so not sure what that wait turned out to be.

Even during the more moderate crowd seasons, there will still be peak times during the day when it will be most busy. Generally, Magic Kingdom will always feel "more crowded" due to it being the most popular of the parks, and its (overall) smaller layout when compared to Epcot or AK.

Someone else mentioned also that everyone's perception of "crowded" is also a little different. Those that have been during holiday or spring break crowds will definitely notice a decrease - a first timer who had an expectation of what more moderate crowds means might be disappointed if that expectation isn't met.

The Cheerleading Worlds competition is this weekend. I would guess crowds are still some residual spring break as well as some cheerleaders coming in early. A lost of Resorts on property are at 90% or higher for occupancy.

Yup Cheerleading Worlds are taking place this Friday-Sunday. So you have different countries as well as Allstar teams. Man I wish they had Worlds back in my day of cheering:)

ONLY 225 days till I see the World!!! :xmas:

Crowd levels, parking lots, and wait times have been pretty much as expected, low to moderate, but that might seem busy to some people.
Except for one attraction, wait times, now, are all under 45 minutes at MK.

Sports competitions, dance, and cheerleading events take place at WDW on a regular basis. They're scheduled mostly during the slower times of the year. The attendees are absorbed by the parks with minimal impact.

The value and moderate resorts are showing plenty of availability for the rest of this week and next.

Though events to take place at WDW year round, there are certain events that bring larger crowds. There is no doubt that the parks are impacted by the crowds that are associated with certain events.

Though resorts are showing availability, doesn't mean they aren't closed to 100% occupancy.

I guess I'll agree to disagree regarding the impact that the USASF event will have.
I did see a couple of cheer-leading groups today at the MK, but I didn't notice any unusual ridership levels at the the All-Stars or Caribbean Beach resorts, where most of the participants and attendees are staying.
The actual event takes place starting tomorrow and ends Sunday, so the participants and attendees will for the most part be at the ESPNWWS and will not be in the parks.
Where they will have some impact on a park will be at DHS for the celebration party.

Don't know if there was an official "Disney week" but there were cheerleading competition groups, choral competition groups, several different school groups in the parks all week and one marching band in MK on Thursday p.m. We noticed that many of these would load on charter buses at park closing, so don't know where most were housed for the week. Everyone we encountered was very well behaved and helped others maneuver around them.

The odd thing is that there were times when you could barely move through any of the parks this past week because of these school crowds, but surprisingly enough, the ride wait times didn't seem to be negatively impacted. We never could figure that out. Also there didn't seem to be longer queues for food service. I'm not sure Disney made very much money on these groups this week. I did speak with a CM at Plaza Icecream Parlor Thursday nite, and she told me that this was the worst she had ever seen at this time in April and she had been working there for 4 years. It was kind of fun to see some of the dancers after they came off RnRC! Most of them still had on their 2" eyelashes and their performance hairdos. That was interesting!
