So you want to create a band. You think a career in the music business is the way you want to spend your life. Lets entertain this idea. First you need to ask yourself, are you committed. Do you want to make it a job and be professional? The people who actually make a living in the music business are dedicated. Bands that you see who are truly superstars spent years working to get there. There are exceptions, but for the most part bands that make it to the top are extremely good at what they do. There are several bands that I personally dislike, but respect them for their abilities and workmanship. The second thing to consider is why you want to do this. If it is only for money then I would suggest looking into a career behind the scenes as a studio musician or working for a label. If it is for a good time then move to a college town and audition for a band there. If it is for the love and passion of music then you have the right incentive to develop a career. Most bands start out making no money. You have to pursue your endeavors with no budget. Everyone who has been in a band has slept more than their fair share of nights in a practice room, van, and every friend that will let them crash at their place. In the beginning it is not as fun as it sounds. You also have to consider each member of your band. Plenty of musicians don't have the passion to practice regularly. Lets face it, most musicians are not dependable. In a band you have to stroke egos, and eventually fire members. It takes a lot of work to get that family feeling in a band.
