CPU Speed?

Hi everyone.
Okay, so I got a game called Battlefield 1942 for my birthday. It runs really slow on my computer, and I checked and it said my "CPU speed" is not high enough. It said that I needed 500 MHZ but I only had -1909 MHZ. Do any of you computer whizzes know how I boost the CPU speed on my computer? I really want to play this game!
Thanks a lot!

A lot goes into making a game play properly.

What's your RAM? How old's your computer? Video Card?

Two options to speed up the CPU... overclock or replace.

But a lot of times just increasing your RAM will do the trick.

You had a negative CPU speed?

When you first turn the computer on, before it gets to the windows screen, in text it should give you a CPU speed. What is that? That is a good starting point. It sounds like you may have a 1.9Ghz, which is far more than what is required.

You said the game runs slow - do any other program? What about non-game programs, such as graphics programs and such run?

What is the OS? And have you cleaned up the temporary files, cleaned up Explorers cache (go to Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files and clean up the temporary files), and then defragment your hard drive.

I would also check if you have enough space on your hard drive - if you are running with much less then 20% free, it will be slow. May be time to remove (by unistalling - don't just delete!) some of those unused programs that are on there.

My RAM is 256 MB. 75 gb hard drive. I run a Windows XP Dell Dimension 2400. It arrived at my house on December 23, 2003. Other programs work fine and are really fast (Graphics programs, internet, word processing, some games, just about everything else) I've downloaded demos of some of the newest games (Halo for PC) and they worked fine. It's just this game that doesn't work well. It takes about 7 minutes to load a level, and when the level loads, it goes really slowly and lags a lot.
Thanks for the help so far everyone :)

obviously it shouldn't lag while playing but do take into mind that load times for Battlefield 1942 are VERY VERY VERY SLOW!

I run a 2.6ghz Pentium IV with 256mg RAM and a 128MG video card and it takes forever to load levels.

As far as processor, you should be fine. I am not familliar with that game, but if everything else works fine, then the problem could be hard disk drive space. Not how big in total, but how much free space you have. The operating system uses hard disk space to swap memory when it is loading stuff. Does the hard drive sound like it is working a lot while loading a level?

I would check your free hard disk drive space, and also defragment (right click on your hard drive in my computer, go to properties, then tools). It is also possible that you have too many other programs running in the background - is your system tray (the little box in the lower right) filled with icons?

More memory would help, but don't go expecting it to be a cure all. But Memory is still relatively cheap.

Have yyou unistalled and reinstalled the program? Especially after cleaning up the sysetm and loading all those demos, it might help a bit.
