ok so i'm driving to florida (from arizona.....5 day drive AGHHHHHHH!!! but i want to have my car with me down there so...), but i have a small sports car which will at most hold like 3 small suitcases  so...i'm going to have to ship a few boxes out there- is there anyway I can ship them directly to the apartments? If not, where should I ship them? Especially because they'd probably get there before I do!!!
also, my dad's driving up with me, and will probably stay at a hotel for a night before he flys home- will I be able to take him to his hotel and to the airport the next day, or and I not going to have time with all the check-in stuff and meetings I have to go to? thanks so much!!

Shipping

You can ship the boxes right to your apartment. I flew down (didn't take a car) when I did my program and took two suitcases (they were pretty larger). My mom shipped me my comforter for the bed because that's pretty large and I couldn't fit it. The day I checked in I found out my address and she shipped it...I got it later that week. So if I were you I would just do that. It worked out very well. Remember though, you're sharing a room with someone so don't bring too much stuff! :-)

As for the day after you get there, I don't think you will have enough time to drive your dad. Is he staying at a Disney Resort? They have free transportation to the airport. If not, if the hotel is in the Orlando area, a taxi should cost around $40.

Hope everything works out! Have fun and good luck on the program!

I really really overpacked for my CP, I have pics to prove it. What won't fit in your car? Remember, they do have laundry, and you'll probably end up buying a lot of things down here.

haha no I'm not overpacking- (i lived in the smallest dorm room you've ever seen last year with a roomate!!!) but my car is basically a two seater- there's not really even room for a person to sit in the backseat! and my dad and I are going to need at least one suitcase just to keep our clothes and all the stuff we'll need on the way there! I wouldn't need to ship a whole lot, probably just a box of clothes and shoes, and a comforter maybe, but I'm really not exaggerating when I'm saying my car won't fit much!

and as for my dad, I kinda assumed that would be the case, but I feel bad to have him come all the way out there and then be like, ok peace out find a cab! haha what can you do though...

If it's just your dad that needs transportation to the airport, check into mears. He can usually get a one way fare to MCO for 26-ish dollars. I just got a sale fare last week for $21. I use mears a few times a year and they have never let me down. Nothing fancy but they've always been on time and cheap too.

Pack up your boxes and leave them at home. Once you have checked-in and know where your living have someone mail them out for you (and maybe get them to pay for it too.....).

I would suggest that they use the Post Office. Any package sent with the US Postal Service, the front desk at the club house can sign and hold for you. If you send it another way (ie UPS, fedex) someone will have to be home at your apartment in order to recieve the package.... which could be pushing it since you have no idea what your or your roomate's hours will be like.

KCW, the trick is having enough space to take home your souvenirs! :D What you need is someone with some serious packing skills. I don't mean to brag but I'm a wicked great packer. If you want to fly me out there....LOL. Just kidding. I helped a friend of mine pack her car it was so tight I'm surprised it didnt' explode out of the trunk. She was from Sierra Vista and I drove back with her. It was a blast!

because a lot of the people who go on the CP are college kids...in fact, about 100% of them are :D
and most college kids live on campus...so
why spend money(which will soon become precious and scarce) on stuff you may already have?

well that could possibly be becuase you're a guy so everything's 10 times easier for you!!! lol no make-up, hair product, straighteners, blowdryers, etc.... all of which are too expensive to just buy another one when you get down there... and then what do you do with all the stuff that you buy down there? just throw it away? cause you still wouldn't have room to bring it back.... I promise I'm not over packing- but there's really no way I'll be able to fit everything I need in one suitcase.... but I'm happy for you that you can!! haha

The smartest thing is to buy stuff down there. Seriously. Your roommates will have blow driers. Bring the make-up, there's a lot of competition down there! :animwink:

Comforters, pillows, alarm clocks, towels, etc. can all be bought for cheap. I bought all that stuff and left it/donated it/threw it away when I was done.

I had a desktop and shipped it. UPS ruined it. So laptop is preferable

Here was my take, if your parents will pay for it to be shipped, and pay for what's being shipped, take advantage of it. Since you will have minimal money while there, not a begger, but a few bucks is a few bucks. Plus, this way you have your own stuff. I was personally away from home for the first time (well, for more than a month) I liked having all my stuff down there, plus it was good when I ended up staying down here. One thing a lot of people dont think about is if you have a mini/dorm fridge it works great. The stuff you really want to make sure no one eats you can keep in yours. It worked out great for me!

It was my first time "away" from the Twin Cities too. I liked the new belongings. It was an aesthetic fit. New Belongings to a new enviornment, new beginning.

I guess it depends on the person.
