Couple to Turn Disney's Chicago Home into a Museum

As a Chicago resident, I'm not particularly optimistic about this project coming to fruition.

Plenty of red tape to navigate in getting this set up in a densely residential city neighborhood and they're relying on fund raising to do it.

I think it's a noble project, and I really hope it comes to fruition; however half a million dollars seems like A LOT of $$ to restore such a small home to "its humble origins".

Two thumbs up for trying though.

Being from the Chicagoland area all my life, I can tell you that the neighborhood where the home is located isn't the greatest and those people are overshooting the mark here with their $500K fundraising goal. I doubt the project will move forward and I don't believe in the $500K will be raised either. Way too much money and they don't need that much to fix the house up. I understand making a healthy profit, but do it with your own money and don't rely on the goodwill of strangers on the fond memories of Walt Disney, to bank roll your scheme.

I get the strong feeling those people are are thinking Walt's former home is going to be the money making cash cow, like the Ohio "Christmas Story house" which was restored a few years back and seems to be very popular.

The $500 paper weight looks pretty cool.

Too bad that money will be better split between my local food bank Christmas drive, the Sally Ann kettle, and Typhoon Haiyan relief fund.

They've updated the rewards so that donations over 20 can get one ticket for a tour of the house when its done. They've got a long ways to go and less then a week to do so.
