Country Bear Jamboree vs. Hoedown

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone had the dates during which the Country Bear Jamboree played in WDW and DL, as opposed to the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown. I'm going to WDW for my 4th visit in 15 years in August (I've also been to DL twice in that time) and realize I may have never seen the original chow. I'm pretty stoked about that.

Thanks for your help,
Peter

The original show premiered October 1, 1971 until 1987 (this conflicts with the information above, however), when it was replaced by the Howdown. Due to guest demand, the show changed back to the original in 1992.

Disneyland's Vacation Hoedown premiered in 1986 and played until its closure on September 9, 2001.

LOL, thanks - but I could be wrong on this one (a confirming source is Widen Your World, though.

(I am a nerd for doing this, but here are some site corrections: "Teddi Barra" is the correct spelling for the dimple darlin' of the dakotas. . . and it's not "Zed" - it's Zeb. -- oh, and the correct spelling of "Liverlips" is "Liver-Lips McGrowl. Not that any of this matters  :D )

Wow, I did not know that. I had a lapse in my WDW vists from the mid-1980s until 1993 due to no more family vacations and me being poor as poor can be. I did not go back until 1993 on my honeymoon. I never knew that it had changed at some point. I had read about the holidy show here on the boards but did not know about the semi-permanant change that had happened back then.

Thanks for the info.

Check out www.doneinthedark.com for some Country Bear Vacation Hoedown information (at least the Disneyland version).

There a few things kept from the Hoedown, however: the cookskin mini-cap on the birdie on Tennessee's "Thing" and the woodland/log base to the Bear Band platform (originally it was flat, with "CBJ" written on it).

I'm not too much of a CB Vacation Hoedown fan. . . the music on this one is a little TOO country and kinda gets away from the Americana aspects. . . and there are a few changes personality-wise for some of the bears (i.e. based too much on the Christmas version, not the original). . . but it surely has its great moments (Ghost Riders in the Sky, being my favorite).

There I go again. BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. :D

Thanks, I will check it out. While we are on the subject, at one time did you become such a fan? Just wondering.

At what time, do you mean? It was one of my first Disney memories from one of my first trips (practically one of the few things I can remember). The attraction grew on me for some thirty years. . . reaching a peak fandom in the 90s, perhaps with the re-arrival of the original show, but always a fan throughout. :D

Cool. I just wondered because I know you love it. I am similar with the likes of the HM and PoTC. Though CBJ is one that I have been doing since I started going to WDW in 1973. On our last trip we did not make it in as my daughter would not go into the Hall. I think it was more to the fact that Splash Mountain was in view than anything else. I am already priming her for the next trip by playing music from the attraction in the car and always tell her it is the bears hoping she will want to go in when we get there. Same goes for the Tiki Room which she would not go in. It is not like the original but I still would like her to see it.

I must say that as a kid though the lines for CBJ were crazy. Always an hour wait. When I went on 1993 on my honeymoon I was surprised at the small lines. We do go off season, but are the lines for CBJ less than they use to be all the time?

Attendance ratings are still high over at Grizzly Hall. Are they 1971 lines? Thank GOODNESS no! But still high. . . So no worries here. :D

That is good to hear. I was hoping it was due to the times we go. Heck we use to go in July and August as a kid and Space Mountain had 2 hour lines a few times when we went the summer after it opened. I can't go during crowds like that now. I would break down and become "unBearable" to be with. That and my wife would be a plain old grouch.

I always visit Country Bear Jamboree when I go to the Magic Kingdom. I still have my original soundtrack record. Learned that show word for word by listening to it so much when I was a kid. I'm quite tempted to give it a spin on the turntable this weekend though. I remember back int he late 70's/early 80's my mom had a plush Big Al. He was her fave in the show. I always liked Henry the best.

Oh, and the Bear Band is actually called The Five Bear Rugs.
