Counting the Days (11 left)

OK.........

I thought I was the only adult who was feeling like a kid waiting to go on this vacation, but when I found this sight I was pleased to find that there are other sane (well most of you I guess) adults who get all giddy about going to the kingdom.

I am taking my hubby (who is just as excited), our 2 teenage girls (15 and 13) and our 2 boys 7 and 2. My only worry at this point is what the 2 year old is going to do on the plane for 5 hours. (We are coming from LA.)

Any suggestions for entertaining a toddler who's favorite way to get his way right now is scream at the top of his lungs? At a store or restaurant I can always take him outside and have a "word" with him... but at 33,000 feet it isn't so easy. I was thinking that benedryl sounded pretty good but that wears off after awhile...

I only hope the passengers on our flight are nicer than when we flew home from an Alaskan cruise in May.... When the little one was crying (OK screaming) the guy behind us said "Oh my... what a lovely song" and lady across the aisle said "Well I don't think its a lovely song AT ALL!" Nasty lady!!

Anyway..I'm not into counting hours yet.. but SOON!!!!!

First off, welcome to the boards.

Second, who are you calling sane?

Third, as to toddlers on planes, when mine were that age I would always pack a bag of new and exciting toys, treats etc to be doled aout duriing the plane ride. Small things usually but the fact that they were new always meant they would be of interest for awhile.

Good luck with it and enjoy your trip!

P.S. I'll be there in 9 days!:sohappy:

Benedryl is a good idea, but not on a vacation!!! He'll be tired when you get there!!! Bring snack foods that he likes and that keep him busy eating, like fruit snacks. Bring coloring books and crayons, or a pen if he doesn't usually get to use a pen, it will be fun and new for him to use. Bring along favorite small toys he can play with, things you or dad can play along with too, and maybe a few new and exciting small toys. Bring favorite books along, he can browse through them, and you can read to him when he is antsy. Bring it all along in a little backpack just for him. He is little, so you can't really promise anything if he is good on the plane, he won't remember. Just keep him busy with fun new things, and he will keep quiet!!! Good Luck, and don't seat him near the 5 year old, they will most likely fight!!!

Fortunately he and his older brother don't fight... we've got an entire aisle on the plane.... 3 seats on one side and 3 on the other so the little one will sit between me and dad and the older one (7) will sit with his sisters who will hopefully be generous and let him look out the window. (Yeah well we can always dream right?)

Jeffrey (the 2 year old) is in LOVE with Spongebob (the cartoon)and there is the hope that we might be able to bring our laptop computer and pop in a DVD of the yellow sponge and keep him busy until the battery runs down...that will be a last ditch distraction when all else has fails..I do think I will go and get some brand new interesting toys...

Our youngest was 23 months on her first visit and coped with the 10 flight from the UK just fine.
Our tip was to deprive her of sleep prior to the flight and then cradle her until she "dropped off" = bliss :animwink:
With regards to a child exercising their lung power while on board - forget it. Only morons will criticise. It is embarassing for the parent but we've all been there, its natural

You should read my new parenting book its entitled "Just Smack Um"... but some liberals aren't into that. I sugjest taking some wdw panflets and some disney coloring books. Try to show the little dickens the cool stuff there is at Disney World when they aren't screaming or squirming.
