Counter Service during non-peak season?

Ok, I booked a trip for October, and when I booked it was past the 180 day mark already. I wasn't planning on more than a few table service meals, because we hope to be touring in a fairly disciplined manner (famous last words, probably, I know) and since we'll have a 4-yo, will want to go back to the hotel at lunch time most days. We need to stay flexible, basically, and aside from planning a few dinners around my birthday, and the parade at MK one day, etc. we will wing it.

My question is, for a non-peak time like late October, we can expect the counter-service places to be fairly accessible (uncrowded), right? I know at the main dining times they may fill up a bit, but it shouldn't be too bad, right?

I'm expecting all breakfasts to be scarfed down in our room, lunches to be something grabbed quickly at a counter-service place somewhere, and the same for dinner, or maybe dinner at the food court at POFQ. But I just can't see spending dinner times sitting in restaurants when that's prime touring time.

we went second week of Nov 2011, and the counter services were not very crowded. Only 1 place we had a really long wait and that was Pecos Bills and that was only because we were behind a family that had dietry restrictions ad they were having problems figuring out what they could or could not have. We just moved over to another line to order though. I noticed Casey's was always pretty busy but we did not eat there. According to my Dear Hubby everything was easier then the last time he was at WDW in July of 1996. Hope this helps :)

We've planned hurried breakfast in the room, returning for naps but when the twins were 4 if we returned to the room we didn't return to the parks as they'd beg and beg to just go to the pool, LOL! We'd get them up and out the door before they knew what was happening, grab a waffle, pastry or something after our first couple of rides and relax for a minute. If it's really hot it is nice to be able to go somewhere and relax in the a/c and enjoy a nice meal you don't have to fetch, carry and search for a seat to enjoy. The children loved riding the monorail so we've always eaten at the Poly using that time as some time to wind down. During your trip you may be able to call and get same day ressies at some places like The Plaza Rest in MK and the price is equal to most QS. One of my best memories of that trip was my husband absolutely dying for good cup of coffee, the kids begging for no more cereal or pbj sandwiches and being lucky enough to call Kona Cafe and walking over there from SOG and being seated immediately, we still made the park opening at 9 and it was a wonderful thing.

The weekends will be busier than during the week, but with the exception of Be Our Guest, you shouldn't have much of a problem. The weekends in October get busy due to MNSSHP and Food and Wine Festival.

Quick services won't be crowded during that time of the year. As you mentioned, they'd be crowded at prime lunch and dinner hours but not in the middle of the day.
