My 3 year granddaughter and I made a 6 week calendar on a large poster board. I put a large, cutout castle on the block for the day we were leaving. I bought her disney stickers to put on each day. Every day she was at my house, she would put on a sticker and count the number of days until our trip. I'm not sure doing it for longer than 6 weeks would have held her attention. The added benefits were she learned about the days of the week and counting up to 40.

My mom used to count back the days for the trip on the calender and we would count the "sleeps", rather than days till we would leave. So when she would tuck us in at night, she would ask how many sleeps we had left. That way we would also want to go to sleep knowing we were another day closer after we woke up. :) Hey psychologically it worked for us when we were little. She would also always buy the new Birnbaum's guide for us to look at each year.

http://www.timeleft.info/ < TimeLeft is a free countdown program for your PC. You program in a title and when the event happens, and it can count down in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes or even seconds. I've found it a very useful and worthwhile program. 181 days! :D

This is a real simple idea. We always make a chain of paper clips with one clip for each week leading up to our holiday and remove one clip every Monday (as we are going on a Monday). We add a coloured one for any memorable events during the run-up, eg birthdays etc.

Its surprising how quickly the chain shortens :animwink:

Ours is really simple too. My son helps me make a chain out of strips of construction paper....one loop for each day until our trip, and we hang it in his room. Each night at bedtime he tears a link off of the bottom. He gets so excited as the chain gets shorter and shorter. I'm sure I could think of something more creative, but this has become a tradition so we keep doing it this way! We are leaving in three weeks, so it is about time to make our chain...maybe this year I'll try to add a little pizazz to it....maybe I'll write a Disney trivia question on each link or something.
