Counseling and CP

Hey everyone, just a quick quesiton. I haven't been accepted or denied yet, but I wanted to know in advance if the CP offered counseling services. I'm in a really rough stage in my life and seeing a counselor at my school, so I wanted to know that if I had an issue while on the program, that there would be someone for me to see. I'm hoping a complete change of scenery (wintery upstate New York vs. Florida) and new people will help me get through this stage in my life, but just in case it doesn't it would be comforting to have someone to talk to in confidence.

Thanks

well I don't know about counseling, but I will tell you this- I was going through a lot of crap when I first went down there on my CP, and didn't know how I'd deal with my program starting in the middle of all of it. BUT moving across the entire country and getting far away from everything, combined with getting to work at Disney World every darn day, combined with awesome roommates.... was the best thing that could have ever happened to me at the time. There truly is no way I would have gotten through that time if it weren't for my CP.... So counselors or not, I imagine it will be a very good situation for you to be in. Best of luck!

I agree. One of the biggest things I'm looking forward to about the program is getting away from all the "troubles" at home that seem to just build and build. It's going to be a nice break from school and even some people I have seen a lot of lately :dazzle:.

Ah, the break from "troubles" is so refreshing...I miss that!

Thanks for the responses. I'm really hoping that I get into the program, getting myself out of this place is my top priority right now as I'm not in a good frame of mind. The CP sounds like it did a lot for you so I hope it can do the same for me, I just hope I don't get rejected as I have no solid backup plan at this point. 3 months at home is too familiar to have any significant impact on my psyche, whereas the CP from May-January has a better chance of bringing some changes.

I'm actually a couple of months into my CP, and let me tell you, doing the program will totally change the way you see life in general. I was having many issues as well when I first started, but doing the CP has allowed me to see the big picture and let me just focus on me and what I want to get out of life. You'll definitely have your days where you feel like the whole world is going to crumble around you, but I hope you have as good of friends as I have here to support you. Its amazing how close you'll get to some people while here on the CP. I can't even begin to tell you how much my life has changed already, and it's only been less than two months! Don't worry, you'll have a great time, and I hope I'll see you here!

And if you like it too much, which you probably will, you can just extend your stay. I know quite a few people who extended their program and transferred to UCF.

As for the initial topic at hand, I know there are a team of counselors (I use that term in the sense of "camp counselors") who run the programs like your orientation, and special CP events, and as far as I can recall their doors are always open. They may not be traditionally trained like a school counselor would be, but I'm sure they have heard just about everything while working there, so they likely have a lot of experience to draw from. The security were generally willing to talk as well.
