Interesting news article in today's OCR, titled "What kind of upcharge event would you like to see at Disneyland?"

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/disney-738288-fans-upcharge.html

>>But here was the number-one request for an upcharge event:

“The no-kids-day at any park.” “21 years old and older day.” “no stroller day at the park." Walt Disney might have envisioned Disneyland as a place that a family could enjoy together but many of Disney’s current fans would love to see an evening when kids are banished from the Magic Kingdom. Too bad that “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” isn’t Disney property – Baroness Bomburst and her childfree kingdom of Vulgaria would provide the perfect theme for the evening.

Here’s my pitch for a $95 childfree event at Disney: Grad Night Reunion. Disney could offer multiple 21-and-over “grad night/class reunion“ events targeted at grads from a particular decade. Book bands from ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, or ’90s – as appropriate – and encourage people to wear the fashion of that decade, then watch the money roll in from people willing to relive their youth at the Happiest Place on Earth.

After all, it’s not a money grab when people are willing to hand over their cash.<<

So what would you like to see for a special event, if I think it is feasible (logistically and at the $100 range for a ticket), I will add it to the poll. (Aka,climbing the Matterhorn rock climbing style fails the test)

My idea, based on what the American Coaster Enthusiasts does at other Theme/Amusement parks, ERT (Exclusive Ride Time). So limit the ticket sells to an amount that would not create waits over a couple of minutes per attraction open. (Though I think the tickets would be more than $100 due to demand and staffing issues)

I would like to see an adult-only throwback nighttime event, specifically harkening to the early days of Disneyland in the 50's and 60's. I'd like to see bands come dressed in appropriate mid-20th century attire and perform songs from back then. Guests would would appropriately dressed for the occasion. Would be great if Disney brought back the old cups and popcorn paper buckets from back then. Basically I'd like to see something like what is shown in "Disneyland After Dark."

I'd love this, but there's no reason to exclude the whole family. Exposing kids to culture and class is a good thing.

I like the limited ticket event but Disney would never limit it enough to make it worth it. I think the adults only night is not a good idea. The park would be opening it's doors to a lot of people with Peter Pan syndrome. Security would have to be as high as it is during Grad Nights.

Love the idea of an adults only event. Hate the idea of a "grad night reunion" event. But I'm probably abnormal that while I love the music etc. of my youth/teen years, I burn out on it pretty quickly when feeling nostalgic. And a whole event dedicated to that kind of sets my teeth on edge.

Still, Disney loves nostalgia. It would probably work.

They could do a Dapper Night were everyone must come in 30's - 50's costume. They could have big band music for the old Disney farts out there. How about a Goth Night from 10pm to 5am on Halloween? That could be something pretty cool except the lines for the Mansion would be forever!

Why does everything have to be themed? Why not just have a 21+ night at the park with a bit of special entertainment and call it a day. The prohibition of strollers and kids would be enough for me to make it appealing.

I agree with Hans, I mentioned things like the Grad Reunions, since the author of the news article liked the idea.

I just like the fact of lower crowds and an atmosphere of no kids and strollers to be held outside of the regular park hours (basically to make sure nobody is "banning" folks, just an option to avoid specific things for a few hours. I would support a special kids only event, though I wouldn't attend. Keep the regular hours for everyone.

But since the laws of the land do allow "adults only" events, just be offering them without anything else, don't need to add alcoholic drinks to Disneyland, don't need to have a retro night or anything like that. Just a place that is easier to walk in, and making sure a few rules were followed, such as no running, and no loud noise making. Maybe requiring that people walk on the right side of the pathway, and that blocking the pathway is not allowed by a large group. (make special zones to allow folks to sit and talk to each other, such as Town Square and the Hub but keep the pathways free and clear.....

To me, that is the perfect theming....

I once attended an amazing private party at the MK - the entire park was closed with the exception of TL for a few thousand invited guests. You could literally walk on Space Mountain. Restaurants were closed but there were catered bars and food stations scattered around along with live musical entertainment. The whole thing was a blast.

They closed the event by having cast members usher everyone to Main Street for a private performance of Spectromagic, and capped off the night with Tinkerbell and fireworks. Not a kid or stroller in sight the entire evening and everyone loved it.

Disneyland use to do those corporate type parties where certain areas were open while the rest of the park was closed. I attended one where we had dinner at Big thunder Ranch and then Frontierland and Adventureland were open. There were only a few hundred guests. It was pretty fun. It must have cost my company quiet a bit.

At a smaller company I was part of, we had our annual Christmas party at Club 33. It was bunch and included free tickets to the park. We did it a few times over the years.
