Could Space Mountain be an inverted coaster?...

For those who have been reading my recent posts, here is another crazy idea. I wondered if it would be cool if Space Mountain (for my park concept) would be a floorless inverted coaster. I just thought it would be neat if your feet dangled in space. The part I struggle with is that you would then not be in a rocket, but likely it would have to be some type of jet pack, and would it also be more difficult to see what is flying by which would compromise the theming. If done, it would seat two across. It would be more like the hanging baskets (think big bad wolf formerly of Busch Gardens) but just without the floor, so maybe it would work?

My struggle is that I like different, but I don't want to do different of it is not feasible. What do we think  ?

The Big Bad Wolf was officially a "suspended" coaster, which is different than an inverted coaster, the main difference being that suspended coasters were free to swing from side to side, whereas inverted coasters are fixed.

I believe that there was one suspended coaster which was converted to floorless seats, maybe in Europe, but sadly those kinds of coasters haven't been built in years.

Aside from that, generally those coasters I believe cover much more area...because they can't take tight turns as easily as regular coasters, the g-forces and loads are probably higher, the vertical space used is also much higher than a regular coaster, making it more tricky to build tracks that interweave as much as the existing Space Mountain ones do.

Having said that, if the building was large enough then it could work.

Right, my mistake, suspended is the appropriate term. In all honesty, I saw the floorless suspended coaster on RCT 2 which gave me the thought.

But how big would it have to be? Bigger than WDW space mountain?

Maybe a new variation could be built that would allow for the suspended/inverted floorless cars in a smaller space while allowing to see enough for it to make sense. What do you think about that?

I don't see why it couldn't, though I do think if you were to do this you should give it a name change to show the distinction. It could be interesting if you made a dueling coaster (one with the rockets and one with the jet packs, so families can ride). Or what if you turned the TTA into a Jet Pack tour, including some rollercoaster elements...does that make sense? Idk. My fear is your park is becoming a little too thrill-centric. One of the great things about MK-coasters is that families can enjoy them together, with only the youngest riders not being able to ride...

And you know, my park does have many thrills, but most of the thrills are mild like MK. Here, why don't I give you a basic run down of the attractions in the park and you can get a better idea of the park overall:

Small Town USA:

The Expo Hall (walk thru exhibit of famous inventions)
Railroad
Main Street Vehicles
Firehouse
The Walt Disney Story
Main Street Cinema
Swan Boats
The Planning Commission (concept art, models, preview center)
The Streets of Old America (darkride)

Liberty Harbour:

The Hall of Presidents
America Sings
American Journeys (slow boat ride of early american history)
Doom Buggies
Keel Boats

Adventureland:

Swiss Family Tree House
Jungle Cruise
Fire Mountain (part boat ride part coaster)
Haunted Temple (indoor ropes course)

Thunder Valley:

Mystery Lodge type attraction (show about native american mythology)
Western Expedition (dark ride)
Country Bear Jamboree
Big Thunder Falls (river rapids)

Enchanted Forest:

Winnie the Pooh (dark ride)
Splash Mountain
7 Dwarves Mine ride
Tea Cups

Fantasy Kingdom:

Mr. Toads wild ride
Peter Pan
Pinnochio (indoor water coaster)
101 Dalmations
Philharmagic
Carosel of many colors (horses of various colors like from wizard of oz)
Sleeping Beauty (dark ride)
Castle
*Fantasy Kingdom is not set like other lands, subject to change

Skyward City:

Timetravel show, almost a cross between AE and Timekeeper, and will utilize video screens and Aas and other effects and will be relatively balanced
Intergalactic zoo (dark ride)
Space Mountain
Tron
Astro Orbitor
*another dark ride will likely be included, this land also not set

Actually, I've been building this park on and off for years in RCT2. I'm not the best builder and I am very detail oriented in some ways, so it's taking a while. I have some pics of my doom buggies attraction posted and I can post some other pics of my progress.

That's quite the park! I like it alot. It's extremely unique and original and I think it's great. One thing that sticks out though, I'm wondering if perhaps 101 Dalmations would fit better in "Small Town USA"? I know the movie takes place in Britain and all, but I just can't see a ride with a 1940's setting in a "Fantasy Kingdom"...idk. I'm sure you have it all worked out, but yeah. Anywho...

It's funny, as I was driving home from work I was thinking about that and figured you would call me out on it  You are right though, I may have to revisit that. Both Fantasy Kingdom and Skyward city are still up in the air, so plenty will probaly change. Here's a question though, is 101 dalmations much more out of place than toad and Peter Pan consider where and when they take place. Oh, and if this helps Fantasy Kingdom was originally meant to be broken into sub groups which includes Merry Olde England which would include Dalmations, Toad, and Pan. But it may still be out of place either way.

You know me oh so well . Truthfully, it isn't really that big a deal, and if you're going to include sub-lands then I think it's perfect, and I've actually always felt Dalmations would make a great darkride. You make a great point about Peter Pan and Toad too, one which I really can't argue with, and I can see the Merry Olde England land coming together perfectly, with the Pan facade being very similar to that of Paris' (click here for a pic), the Toad facade being Toad Hall (click here for a pic) and the Dalmations facade located in...hmm hahaha idk. What were your ideas for the facade?

Hey, thanks for the pics, those help. And yes, simular facade for Pan and Toad. With Toad, I was actually thinking about having a separate building with a pond out front. And 101, if I do it, I have no idea yet.
