Costume Malfunctions

This video and thread contains video and discussion some younger, and younger at heart people may find inappropriate. No offence is meant but a frank discussion about the Disney Magic.

Was trailing through Disney youtube videos (what a way to not study for an exam) and my friend posted me a link with a rather disturbing fall from Tweedle Dum or Dee. I'm not hear to ruin the disney magic but I cant believe something like this could have been allowed to happen. It almost looks like it is just somebody dressed as Tweedle Dum. Aren't the costumes made so this sort of thing CANNOT happen on stage? I thought the actions of the other characters did a great job. Except when the other CM yanks the other tweedle out the parade.

Again, not hear to ruin anybody's magic, just curious as to if anybody has seen such a bad accident before and how it was handled.

what a shame. hope the cm didn't lose his/her job after this...was good to see the speed with which he/she acted to regain character despite being in obvious pain...

I thought the top parts of the costumes were held using straps on the underarms meaning they cant really just 'fall' off.

Actually, for "show" purposes, that makes sense. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are a pair. Having only one remain in the parade would be bad show.

True, but it's just the manner in which she runs and just pulls at Tweedle's arm.

I think everyone did very well. Thank lord the head didnt fall any further away.

That's the first time i have ever seen that type of video posted on youtube.

I hope the poster sees fit to preserve the magic and remove it.

I can't say i like that the link is posted here. :(

Why should it be removed? There was a proper spoiler warning added before the link.

This forum is composed of many people, including adults that enjoy the knowledge of what makes WDW tick including the good, the bad and the ugly.

If you want to preserve the magic for the under 12 set that's fine and dandy, but don't try to convince everyone here that their aren't real people making the magic happen.

I'm a fan of preserving character integrity. That's all.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything.

Of course there are realy pople creating the magic ( I do so myself ) but seeing a performers character head fall off is somthing that doesn't need to be broadcasted for us to remember there are real people involved.

You are advocating censorship?

i agree with wdw heads need to roll for that mistake. it shouldnt have happened. where was security i mean we have 50 people that watch our parades at all times throughout the parade route. its like the marines never leave a man or woman behind. i mean if you see it happen dive on them and form a circle make sure no kids see it.

Wow, its just so awkward. Tweedle Dum/Dee seems to limp off stage with the help of a CM too. Luckily the headpeice didnt roll too far away that it wasnt reachable. I love how Tigger just kinda grabs the headpiece down and stands inbetween the crowd and the fallen Tweedle. Well done to the other cast members if you ask me.

Just for clarification from someone who worked in costuming, the character heads for the most part (there are a couple exceptions) aren't strapped to anything in the costume, most of the time they are just sitting on the heads.

Most heads, however do have headgear (a "halo") and a chin strap so it doesn't wiggle on the performer, there are heads however (Stitch is one that I know of) that aren't designed with chin straps or halos. Most heads also have a neck piece that is velcro'd to the costume, but that hardly keeps the head in place if one is upside down.

Usually the weight of the head is enough to keep it stable on someone's head, but if they fall over, such as in this instance, it's very likely that it will come off. Its actually somewhat surprising to me that this doesn't happen more often.

Oh, wow. Cheers for that great insight. Its awesome to hear from somebody who actually knows the ins and outs. Im suprised at their vulnerability.
