Coronado Springs restraurants

Just got back from a great trip to WDW! However, I must say I was very disapointed with the selection and price$ of the food at Coronado Springs. A quick lunch at the Pepper Market for two adults and a three-year-old cost $40, and we didn't really like it!! Has anybody else had the same experience w/restaurants at Coronado Springs?

I had the same experience . It was just two of us but it costs us like almost $40 for a quick lunch. IMO I would rather them have the food court like the Port Orleans resorts than the way the Pepper Market is setup now. But thats my own choice, but I did enjoy it either way >

Well, at least they're consistent...I attended a conference at Coronado Springs a couple of years ago and that was about what I saw (price-wise) then. At least in my mind, Coronado seems to be a bit "business-ey," i.e., the pricing seems to assume a reimburseable expense account.

I enjoyed the resort and the late evening walkarounds in the interior of the resort. "The Dig" was a bit novel then...bury stuff just for the kids to unearth it.

I haven´t had meals at the Pepper Market, but I have heard the same comments you posted. I had dinner at the Maya Grill and thought it was great. I didn´t see the prices as it was during a vip´s visit with Disney execs., and for me, it was free! hehe :slurp:

I personally like the Pepper Market, I thought that food was good and it was resonably priced for a restaurant at Disney.

My husband and I like it, too. We like the variety of choices and generally we've been pleased with our selections. I remember ordering a smoothie and not liking it. I mentioned this to the waitress and she took it off of the bill.

I know we didn't spend anywhere's near $40. We tend to drink water with meals-- except for that smoothie. :lol: And we don't select a lot of food items.

I like the atmosphere and the food at the Pepper Market. My only gripe is the manditory 10% tip, regardless of whether you have a server or not, and whether they actually do anything for you.

Am I the only one that hates this system (and is thrilled that no other restaurants at WDW have incorporated it)?

I have to disagree. The Pepper Market is our favorite place to eat while at CSR. When you enter the Pepper Market, you will notice it's not your average food court. This is Disney's first new style, "interactive" food court on property. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. You choose your meals in a Mexican market-style set-up while walking from station to station and talking with the chefs. You are seated by a host/hostess and receive a ticket. The host/hostess will take your drink order. You then can stroll around the food areas, choose what you want to eat and receive a stamp on your ticket for each item you get (each guest receives their own card). At the end of the meal, you present your ticket(s) to a host/hostess and pay as you leave. 10% gratuity is charged automatically to your bill so be sure not to leave an additional tip on the table. If you feel the 10% was not deserved, speak to the host/hostess when paying and it will be removed. The Pepper Market is open 6:30am - 11pm.

The food counters include some awesome choices. My favorite is the Mexican Kitchen which offers tacos, fresh tortillas and something called a wet burrito (YUMMY!). A Wok Kitchen with traditional Chinese favorites. A Grill Station which includes steaks, burgers, rotisserie chicken, baked potatos and french fries. An Pizza Station that has calzones and pizzas. A Pasta Kitchen that offers traditional fettuccine/linguine/penne dishes. A Sandwich Kitchen that has a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. A Bakery/Desert Station that includes bread, sweet rolls and great cookies. A Soup/Salad Kitchen in case you ate too much at the parks. And not to leave out the kids, a Kids Station which includes the old standbys of chicken strips, hot dogs, pasta and pizzas all for $4.25 or $4.50 (very reasonable). You can get creative at the Pepper Market too. You can mix and match to your delight. Sometimes I'll order a baked potato and a cesaer salad or french fries with my pizza. Don't be afraid to ask for anything. For example, they don't sell breakfast sandwiches but I usually get a hard roll from the baked goods area and take it over to the grill area and ask them to put my eggs on the toasted hard roll. Sounds like a lot of different experiences, maybe it depends on the time you go. I was just not impressed with the Mexican bar, not just because that is my heritage, but because an $8 taco salad should not consist of two hard flat tostada shells with a few ingredients on top. I had a GREAT taco salad at the All-Start for the same price. Now, I didn't get to try a lot of things, because my wife wouldn't go back, but $4.50 for a hotdog and small bag of chips did seem high even by Disney standards.
Now, I will say that the staff was friendly and professional, even though we did have to wait till the end of lunch to get anoffer to refill our teas.
Maya Grill may indeed be a fine restraunt, we passed it up to eat at the San Angel. Now, that was one of the finest meals I've ever had.

I really like Pepper Market, maybe because it's theming and idea of paying like a real market: that was totally surprising when we visited the resort back some years ago for the first time. I think the food is exquisite if you have a strong paladar and resist to some spices. But if you ate at Eastside Mario's you won't have a problem!
