Coral Reef Restaurant Question

Hey everyone!

Does anyone know if they allow adults to order off the kid's menu at Coral Reef Restaurant in EPCOT for dinner? We've never been so we are unsure of that restaurant. We know some do, but not sure about this one.

Thank you!

My teen son has ordered off the kids' menu (he's a picky kid who's been raised vegetarian and doesn't care for the ONE vegetarian-friendly option on the adult-menu). They charge him an adult price but bring him an adult portion. As far as I know, you can't order off the kids' menu at a TS and pay the kids' price. I'm sure they'd be happy to bring the kids' portion but they will charge the adult price. At least that's been our experience.

Waiters must LOVE that lol
That's why one tips based on what you would've paid as an adult and not as a kids meal.

As a small eater (and even sometimes my teen thinks some of the meals that are for adults are huge) I sometimes order a small kids portion. We haven't been denied yet for either myself or my son. Better than wasting food and then we tip to compensate the price difference. ETA Keep in mind they can charge double too.

Work with your server, most Disney restaurants can do some modifications. My fiancé is vegan and like above said, there’s usually only one option listed, but if you ask the server sometimes they can modify something else to make more options or suit your taste.

If you're looking for an adult-sized portion of a kids' menu item (e.g., sweet-and-sour chicken) and are willing to pay an adult price - you should have no problem.

If you're looking for the kid-sized portion at the kids' menu price - it's unlikely you'll be allowed, but asking politely can't hurt.

Also, as others said, if the latter is permitted by your server, be sure to calculate your tip based on what an adult entree would have cost, in acknowledgement of the fact that the server is doing you a special favor by letting you do something that's technically against the "rules" as stated on the menu (restricting kids' menu items to "children ages 9 and younger"). Yes, it may be a stupid rule, but many places are sticklers about it, and you don't want your server's tip to suffer, since that will end up discouraging them from allowing it in the future.

I find if you say it is about portion size and not price, you get better responses. Like say "we know the burgers are huge here, can we get the kids size? Happy to pay for the adult size" Those who have had surgery for weight loss do this too as an FYI. They do charge roughly double at times, but yes, definitely tip based on what you would pay not what you do. Like our server brought us cornbread at WCC but didn’t charge us on Weds. She was tipped extra for that as that was so kind of her.

But if you do want the adult portion of said kids meal spell it out too so there is no confusion. I ate with a friend once about 15 years ago who didn’t make that clear (it was for dietry restrictions after gallbladder issues, the kids meals then were so bland) Leading to the next...

I have a weirdo allergy and yes, they are very willing to work with you. I usually look at all meals to make sure something is there I can eat. They can piece together if you ask nicely. Often slightly better flavored too than kids meals. I just know that their idea of adult portions can mean things like 2 or 3 chicken <large white meat sections> (cannot always have sauces or breadings due to allergy) so I have to remember to say just 1 please. They’ll always come up with what I see is a fair price or just charge as one thing but do the modifications (like instead of fried chicken at 50s Prime Time I get grilled but it shows up as fried with modifications on the receipt). Again tipping for service after too

I'm vegetarian and have an allergy to mushrooms, a very favorite and common addition to most of the vegetarian/vegan options. A lot of times the chef is happy to make me something off-menu and it's usually the best thing at the table. Prior to Cali. Grill going prix fixe, some of my best meals have been that way!
