Does anyone here think that Citywalk is a copy of Downtown Disney,PI, and WS? I mean they both have shop, nice restaurants, and a movie theatre...

I know that the Cali one came first... (the CityWalk)

but I'm not sure about the florida version. I'm assuming it came after DTD. But before it was really DTD it was the Marketplace right?

Universal has had Citywalk out here in La-La Land for at least 15 years. But I'm not sure what idea came first. I know that WDW had the Lake Buena Vista area done up with shops and restaurants since the early '80's or even the late '70's. But I remember it seeming like an outdoor mall and not too themed out like it is now.

When did Pleasure Island debut--late '80's, right? Again, kind of a different concept, though, since PI is mostly for adults.

If my history is correct, I think Disney kind of drooled over the success Universal had in L.A. with Citywalk because it kept people on the Universal grounds well beyond the park hours. And that's what inspired all the changes in WDW when it came to the Lake Buena Vista area.

But if you're asking what came first between Orlando's two versions, my thinking is that Disney trumped Universal by a few months (or was it actually a few years?) just like Disney did in opening Disney/MGM a few months prior to Universal Studios Orlando.

Weird competition these two companies have.

It isn't truly a copy, but they did take the succesful ideas from DTD Florida and put them in Citywalk so they can compete for the locals.

Not really "copied", but the same idea. DtD is better themed, but Citywalk has more nightlife and restaurants. I personally think Citywalk is better.

ok.. this thread has managed to me off enough with all the misinformation going around here..

here's the history

Citywalk in California WAS FIRST!

Then came Pleasure Island/DTD in WDW

Then came Citywalk in Universal Orlando, WHICH WAS BUILT TO BRIDGE USF AND IOA WITH SOMETHING IN BETWEEN.

Then came DTD in DLR..

this time it looks like Disney did the copycatting... and honestly, except for the comedy clubs, I detest going to PI. I'll go to Citywalk any day of the week over PI (or maybe its the fact that I live a helluva lot closer to it than to PI)
