CoP's 40th anniversary

I don't know that they will do anything, but it is possible that we will see something for either of two reasons:

(1) Kind of a "last hurrah" for a popular ride before it closes (although this may not be "promoted;" and no, I do not have any info on COP closing -- nor do I mean to start a rumor, but we all know it is possible), and

(2) A tie-in to the 40th anniversary of the whole 1964 NY World's Fair (where it debuted) itself and to the upcoming "Walt Disney's Tomorrowland" DVD set, showing Walt's interest in "the future" to which this attraction was tied.

I would think a light celebration along the lines of #2 above would be more useful though still not very likely. They could do some specials on the History Channel or A&E, etc., and some magazine promotional tie-ins, along with some souvenirs and light promotion at the parks. Most people usually have a fond memory of this ride, and they could tap into that.

Missing Scene Form CoP?

They should have a pen and paper as a petition to people who don't want the ride to close.

They should have a family tree of the CoP to Horizons already.

We should finally know whose John's grand daughter and link possible family lineages so we finally know who is who already!!

Also, names of the family members. Every new Disney brochure has a different name of John's family all the time it's beyond ridiculous!!

Just how long does John's family live? Isn't John form the 1950's so how did he live to be on Horizons in 2076?

There must be a missing scene form CoP that extends life or poor script writing.

CoP is one of my very favorite attractions but it's very old. Just like an old dog, there comes a time when you have to put it down. Let's hope that WDW takes the humane approach and stops the pain this attraction continues to suffer.

The old factor is why I heard they don't run the ride as often anymore. Apparently the parts are very old and most parts aren't even made anymore. As much as everyone loves the ride you also have to admit that within the past five years there has never been a line for CoP. As beloved as it is by Disney freaks it's an attraction skipped by many people.

I've stood on line for the CoP. Hopefully Disney will do something to celebrate the anniv, but I doubt it really.

"If you can dream it you can do it.":D

Old parts that "can't be replaced" is an excuse I have seen repeated often:eek: I am not attacking you or anyone else that posts that oft repeated reason that I am sure stated with Disney management:(

Craftspeople make parts for machines that are over 100 years old. It isn't cheap and it isn't easy but it is done every day all accross this Nation and others:cool:

Another excuse is that much of the works of CoP are enbedded in concrete and can't be removed. That also can and is being done many places. Hum, isn't Space Mt. in Cali being redone on a massive scale?

My point, If we lose CoP it will be because Disney management wants it gone, not because it can't be 1. Saved and 2. Fixed so that it could run every day.:sohappy:

Well said. Disney has some of the best people working for them; if they can't fix it then I doubt anyone can. I feel its more of a don't want to than can't.

Here is an idea! Celebrate the ride's 40th by leaving it open all year in 2004. They could cut back the hours like saying it is open from 10-6 every day or whatever, but have it open daily for everyone to enjoy. I want it open in January at least for me to enjoy. :D

It was moved several times, first to New York for the 1964 fair, then to Disneyland, then in the early 1970s to Walt Disney World. It is not "in concrete" or made in such a way as not to be moved or fixed.

As for the crowds, do not forget that this attraction absorbs massive crowds every few minutes. It does not have a line because it takes more people in than most other attractions, NOT because it is not popular.

Its lifespan is a matter of will and corporate direction, not a matter of hard-to-get parts or lack of popular support. Every attraction that is well-done and specialized (as most by WD Imagineering are) has special-order parts throughout.

I think the best hope for any type of commemoration for this ride rests with something tied into a wholesale commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Fair itself. Therefore, I think the best and most useful attention would come from New Yorkers and others from the area working to celebrate and commemorate the 1964 New York World's Fair.... Perhaps a group of Fair supporters could get Disney to work with them....

When exactly is the 40th Anniversary next year?

Anyways,Disney really should focus on this. Magic Kingdom doesnt look like it has much in store for next year after Philarmagic,so why not do something for CoP. Advertising and more can work, and even make the outside queue indoors or something so that t.v.'s can show the history and more and also many picture and artifact displays could be set up also. Billboards and more can also be set up. If it is also to be the final year much should be displayed also, that will bring in more people to get one final ride.

It's a CONSTANT loader...and yes, even then, I have waited in lines...this January! :D

Tiki Room didn't get a 40th fuss...I doubt CoP will. I could hope! So long as they keep their dignity to keep the attraction, however, I'll be fine!

It DID get a Marie Osmond doll and a litograph though...

In that sense we should have at least gotten a Patricia doll or some art or something...

I did email Disney two years ago. I received a phone call and had a very nice conversation with a cast member. In short this was what I was told...

There were no specific plans to close COP but that they are always evaluating their options. He said (I do not agree) that people only go into the show for the air conditioning. He said they could put in another attraction that cost less to operate (i read food court gift shop)( My words not his) to keep people cool.

He said while they get a lot of email and snail mail its a lot of mail from a small group.

If we want to save COP we need to have more people write letters and send emails.
