When I went to Disney during the 25 years of magic there were two signs right below the monorail station before you got to the ferry boats. One was about fantasmic, a coming soon logo that had the pic of sorcere micky and the villains behind the fantasmic logo.
The other was this cool design that said Copperfield Magic Underground, I still have pictures of it.

What was it?
Did it happen?
Was it scrapped?
Is it there???

Here is the information posted on the offical David Copperfield website.

What happened to Magic Underground?

It's on hold. The idea is great, and great ideas last. But investors perceived it as a theme restaurant at a time when the theme restaurant market is collapsing.

So anyhow, even though our concept wasn't a theme restaurant that was the rap that got put on it. Doesn't mean it won't happen eventually. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, if you want to combine food and magic, rent one of my specials and watch it with dinner.

BTW-David Copperfield was supposed to open a restaurant in Times Square New York. As far as I know that project had started contruction for almost a year. The construction was stopped once Planet Hollywood filed Chapter 11 and closed some of thir locations.

Please Note: All of the above information is going from my memory. It may not be exactly correct.

Info I found from very old Websites:

#1-Copperfield Magic Underground - The Store, a specialty shop full of magic tricks and treats will open next year as well, to coincide with the opening of the Copperfield Magic Underground restaurant at Disney-MGM Studios. In late 1998-early 1999.

#2-An article about the restraurant can be found here. http://www.restaurant.org/rusa/magArticle.cfm?ArticleID=276

#3-DAVID COPPERFIELD has joined forces with LateNite Magic, Inc. and plans to open "David Copperfield's Magic Underground." The 20,000 square foot underground food and entertainment complex is located in Times Square.

Plans are also underway for a second "Magic Underground" at the Lake Buena Vista, Florida "Walt Disney World Resort". The restaurant's food and service is designed by Joe Baum and magical setting created by David Rockwell. David says it will not be a themed restaurant, but rather more of an interactive entertainment experience from which you won't want to escape. On the other hand, it will have secret tunnels through which he can appear and vanish.

David Copperfield's Magic Underground in New York was scheduled to jump out of the creative hat around the end of the year. However, building work has stopped. Massive cost overruns used up the $26 million budget. Originally projected to cost $20 million, now estimates have increased to more than $30 million.
On Dec. 30th the New York Post reported that "...investors stand to lose the $30 million they sunk into magic-themed restaurant of David Copperfield, which may never open." Similar stories about the restaurant have been reported in other papers and magazines as the theme-restaurant business is beginning to soften

#4-Copperfield to open restaurant at Disney World

Disney World and magician David Copperfield are joining forces in a new restaurant. Copperfield Magic Underground will open at Disney-MGM Studios in 1998. Guests at the 500-seat restaurant will be entertained with magic tricks as they dine on American and international food. The first Copperfield Magic Underground already is under construction in New York's Times Square.

#6-Copperfield's Delayed
Copperfield Magic Underground, magic themed resturants set for New York and the Disney/MGM Studios Theme Park in Orlando, have been delayed by cost overruns and technical problems. The Orlando restaurant is now expected to open at least three to six months later than first planned. (9/18/98)

There are many more websites like the ones above. Also, I was very bummed out when I heard this was cancelled. I am a huge, HUGE David Copperfield fan.

I totally remember seeing that sign but I remember hearing it was put on hold or it was scrapped.

I also remember at DD West Side the store was suppose to be located right next to the Movie Theaters. I remember the signs that were located in the window but it never happened.
