Cool voice thing at Innoventions...how do they do it?

Forgive me if this has already been posted. I was wondering if anyone knows how that cool voice thing works outside of the Innoventions building. The one where you stand on a circle and face the building, and then when you talk it sounds like you're in a tunnel or something. Also, is this something that just happened accidentally, or was it intentional? Either way, it's very cool.

I haven't experienced the phenomenon at the location that you're talking about, but I remember as an elementary-aged kid visiting our state Capitol building - there was an atrium with a domed ceiling and if you stood in the middle and spoke quietly, it sounded as if you were talking with a megaphone or something.

Sounds like it's a a similar acoustic principle. Basically, it's a focal point relative to an acoustically reflective feature which creates a resonance of sound. Pretty cool stuff. It's a similar principle to the expansion bridge that collapsed from a steady wind causing it to twist violently.

"Noise and vibration" are very cool principles...too bad I couldn't pay enough attention in college to learn more about them! :)

Sounds to me like you understand it pretty well...better than I do anyway! :p Thanks so much for the explanation. There's a spot in an airport I was in one time (I think it was Houston Airport), where there was a big dome in the ceiling and it did that. But this one at Innoventions is especially cool because whatever is causing it is not obvious at all. I have looked all around and haven't been able to figure out what exactly the sound is even reflecting off of. And I still wonder if it was created by design, or if it was just an accidental thing. If anyone has more info, please fill me in. I've become really curious about this.
