Contemporary's Wing rooms

We are planning to stay at the Contemporary for the first time and are considering the Wing rooms to save money. How far of a walk would you say it is to the main building(monorail)? Is it worth the extra 100$ for a tower? I have heard that you can see the fireworks sometimes from the Wing rooms, if so what room #'s are thoses? Can you see the fireworks from the grounds at all (pool, lobby, etc.) without paying for the tower? Oh and what is the difference in the 'Standard Wing' room vs. the 'Garden Wing' room???? Thanks!

Here is a link that should explain it all from allearsnet...Contemporary Fact Sheet

We stayed in a Garden View room in the North Wing on our first visit . We had a private beach with a wonderful hammock just outside of the sliders. There is a walk to the elevators, but it wasn't that bad and you could go outside the building and cut thru the grounds.

You can see the fireworks and the Electrical Water Parade from the beach (quite a few people stop by).

i stayed in the north garden wing last year. the walk to the monorail was not far. the walk to the bus stop was closer. I liked it, didnt have any thing to complain about...except it wasnt my beloved Shades of Green. but im a bit biased.

The walk to the Tower from the garden wings is no longer than 5 minutes from the furthest point. You can get from the wings to the Tower a bit quicker if you cut through the parking lots rather than walk through the hallways.

The North Garden Wing is close to the pathway to the Magic Kingdom, the bus stop, the Food and Fun Center, the playground, and the tennis courts.
When I stayed there in 2002, the NGW was non-smoking. The back door to the Food and Fun Center is just steps from the NGW.

The South Garden Wing is close to the 2 pools, kiddie waterjets, and 2 spas.

The standard room is parking lot view. You may have a view of the Tower, a partial view of the Magic Kingdom, or just the parking lot.

The garden view is just that, a garden view. You may have a view of the pools or of Bay Lake.

There is a viewing area on the concourse (4th floor in the Tower) for the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. If you're a patron of the California Grill, you can see the fireworks from there.
