Not sure if anyone has posted anything about this before but.............

Just recieved a letter from Virgin Holidays about my upcoming trip to Disney World:

'Since making your reservation we have recieved notification from the hotel that between 30 May and 31 October 2005 there will be renovation work taking place to the South Garden wing of the property. The whole wing will be closed; therefore all guests will be allocated away from the work. The hotel has assured us that there will be minimal disturbance to guests.'

Doesn't bother me too much as I am in Tower!! :)

Almost June-October isn't very long for an entire rehab of that many rooms. I'm not trying to be skeptical here-because I do believe a rehab will happen, but it's taken almost 6 months to do a complete overhaul on our hotels LOBBY-not 200+ rooms. I'm just thinking. :veryconfu

this reminds me of the rehab that was done on the Grand Fl. back during the Milennium Celebratioin. i remember taking the monorail and seeing all the construction work thinking how crappy it would be for the guests.

but glad to hear about the Contemp. rehab!

I agree with DisneyJill!

I'm with DisneyJill on this one! This is probably something that will eventually take longer than projected! Hopefully they'll keep things quiet for the guests that are staying there. I'll go check it out in October, when I go up to the California Grill for some of the fine wines that they offer there. I may even try the sushi!

Not really. 5 months should be plenty of time. With the rehab at POFQ Disney said they were doing 15 rooms a week. Five months is about 20 weeks and thus they could get done with about 300 rooms. You also have to remember that there is much more incentive to rehab the rooms as quickly as possible than there is for a lobby, as rooms under rehab do not make money.

I can assure you that a lobby under rehab doesn't make money either. We gave so much away to appease groups that were ticked about the lobby being under renovation.

We were just there last week and there was scaffolding up outside on the south entance for the resort loop monorail, and they were renovating some rooms down on that end on the 6th floor. We could only tell that the room had been stripped completely. No paint or carpet. Not sure what the scaffolding outside is about though....Possibly working on the monorail doors?

By the way...kudos to the CMs at Check-In once again! We had two rooms in a garden wing and I asked and got bumped to Tower at the same rate! The other couple with us was celebrating their 5th anniversary, so the Contemporary team really went to bat for us! THANKS ALL! :sohappy: :sohappy:

got some pics of them working on the outside stairwells last weeks, and this afternoon they were painting the whole roof of the convention center.

ok I got a question, I am satying at the contemporary on june 14 and 15 05 (our whole trip will go on till the 19) we are stying here because my friends dad is having meetings there at that time with his company, his company is paying for the room so what type of room will they most likely give us and could we ask to get bumped up even though his company is paying for it?

It definitely needs something. This being a premiere deluxe location, it needs to be more, well, contemporary. My kids call it the "retro hotel". To us who lived through the 70s its cool though.

Probably a standard (read:parking lot) view. You never know though. You could always ask to be upgraded, but just be prepared for them to deny your request. Also, more people usually request standard view rooms than there are those rooms available, so if the resort is even somewhat close to full, there is a possibility of being upgraded to a garden view before you even arrive. Good luck!
