Construction Question

I apologize in advance if this question has been asked and answered already.

In all the photos I've seen of construction being done at the parks, and from what I've seen when I've been there, I never see any construction workers. Come to think of it, I never hear construction sounds, either.

Do they only work when the parks are closed?

I've seen pictures of Mission: SPACE with them around...usually you see them out during the day as attractions get closer to deadlines...like the Epcot Wand in August 1999...when it still wasn't done but really needed to be:)

yea, construction workers are basically seen as little as they can be seeon, on a practicle level.
the same goes for construction noises, but i can remember hearing a lot of noise when they were building blizzard beach.

One of the times we went down to WDW they were doing construction on either Big Thunder or Splash Mountain (can't remember), they had the large walls up to block view of the work. As were were leaving for the night (after the fireworks) we walked around by the parade float exit road and were met by 30 - 50 construction workers. My wife and I were amazed to see them walking thru the parks, but after we thought about it they must have just come in from the same road the parade floats exit. All were ready to work with lunch buckets and hard hats ready for a tough nights work.

As has been shown here in the pictures we saw and heard the construction work being done on Mission: Space when were were there a couple weeks ago. Have video but will not post because it would only duplicate the pictures above.

I did get some coporate big wigs from either Disney or Compaq on one or two my photos when I was taking pictures of the very early construction of Mission: Space. A Disney host seemed to be giving them a tour of the construction area. No construction workers though.

Much of the work done in the parks happens at night. Disney does that specifialy to avoid disturbing the guests and ruining the magic.

I have been the Magic Kindom near the haunted Mansion in the early moring with trucks and tools all around. About half an hour before the park opens they put out a call to clear the park and all tools, construction vehicles etc must be out of site and boy do they disappear fast.

Last September when I was there, I saw construction workers at the Sorcerer Mickey Hat, Mission: Space, and Dinoland area. All were working hard.

Maybe you just went on a day that they were working on something that was out-of-sight of guests.

Yes..realize that most of Mission: SPACE's work is inside, and I know of no one who has actually been in there w/o signing a contract saying they won't talk about it...

Sometimes it depended on the Attraction being built but even in the 70s construction of attractions went on durring the day. I remember Christmas of 74 watching them install the concreat ribs for the roof of Space Mountain and had an excelent view from the Top of The world at the contempoary.

I would say in general construction or rehab or attractions take place durring the night if it's inside a building i think they work durring the day ,as for general mantinance that was usually done at night in the early days of WDW to keep the Magic of WDW.

Although when I was as MGM in 93 they were building ToT and they were erecting the steel frame durring the day, somewhere I have Pic of that.

NOTE: The wall surrounding the construction areas are done at night like we saw in the Pic of the Demo of Horizions we saw a partial wall intsalled and the next day it was finished and the walls for MS will also be changed or removed at night in the same way to cause the least interuptions to the magic

When I was in AK last September I saw some guys constructing the Dinosaur near Primeval Whirl, I remember one guy asking the other "how does this all fit together?", the other replied "I dunno, I've never built a dinosaur before". Just made me chuckle, but back to the point - yeah, I've seen construction workers at WDW before!

I think there's a construction workers in almost every one of my new SPACE pics. More about lately then i've ever seen before.
