Hey, I was on the updated google maps today, and I noticed a patch of land that's under construction behind the FLE. Any ideas on what it could be for? Parking maybe? Let me know what you guys think!

They are retention ponds to help facilitate drainage in the area. To the right of Toontown is another retention pond which was expanded.

Probably a retention pond as said. But who knows at this point. I figured they would have re-routed that road to go throught he forest and then straight down to meet back up with the back lot, or is the existing road not going to be visible inside the completed FLE (visible also means sound in this case)

It is a retention pond and won't be re-routed for the expansion. The show buildings for the restaurant and Ariel's Adventure will serve as an effective visual and sound barrier so the road won't be a problem. :)

Great photo! Hopefully google etc will regularly update this photo. When the 20K show building came down they converted its footprint into a retention pond. It does appear that this area will be replacing that. Most likely a state zoning issue. I had hoped the road would be rerouted to allow for a phase 3 if they ever wanted to do that but the pond makes that less likely. One thing to note, it is getting clearer why this expansion has such a hefty price tag. This is major reconstruction going on.

Yeah I posted this pic a few days ago then realized the recent aerial photo posted on the main news page clearly shows the already filled pond

Could you clarify or post a link? Are you saying there is an even more recent photo of the FLE?

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't even notice it in that picture before, it looked so put together, like it was there from the beginning. I guess that should be expected of Disney!

First off, this is an old pic. This is before the construction began. You can see, the trees are still there behind Ariel meet and greet. Second, they finished that pond, or 'retention pond' as you call it. It's filled with water now. Where they shoot the fireworks off from is right behind the pond, and serves as a body of water to catch anything still burning or that had not fully exploded yet. :-)

not that old, if you goto google earth and look around it sure seems like it shows pooh tree in new location.

I agree that it can't be too old since those trees were only taken down a few weeks ago. Ariel's Grotto looks like in was still intact in this picture, however.

I'm shocked that it's even this recent. My house was built almost two years ago and it's still just woods on Google.

Trust me... The exploded pyro shells expand to an area MUCH larger than that retention pond... They find bits of debris from them all over the railroad tracks and in the woods. Just like the canal that surrounds the park, it has nothing to do with "catching" pyro debris, it jsut happens to be a body of water within the fallout zone.
