Construction at the poly

If anyone has been there in the past week or two I was wondering which buildings have been most affected by the new construction at the poly. I know everything is going on pretty much around the parking lot area and the transportation ticket side of the resort but wasn't sure how far back it went, if any of the buildings have been closed, or if any are being worked on (don't really want to hear hammering at 8am kind of thing).

Tahiti and Rapa Nui are the buildings slated to become DVC and have not undergone the recent room refurb. They are the closest to the ''construction'' zone. If you request any other longhouse you should not be impacted by noise.

The construction fence goes right by the north end of Tokelau and across the beach on the east end of Hawaii. Rooms on the north end of Tokelau (especially east side) will look into the construction area and there is some blockage of view on the extreme east rooms of Hawaii. Lagoon side rooms in Hawaii look into the construction zone and are affected by construction of the bungalows in the lagoon (directly in front of Hawaii Building).

Tahiti lagoon side can be considered as part of the construction zone. Tahiti garden view and Rapa Nui will be involved soon but not quite yet though SE rooms in Rapa Nui are slightly affected by the construction zone in the parking lot in front of the building. No other building is currently affected but other unannounced projects will likely affect other buildings.

Thanks! I get why they chose the buildings they did to switch them over to dvc but have to admit I'm kinda bummed tho we really like staying in rapa nui for the proximity to the transportation ticket center but still love staying there either way.

Thanks for the info. DD and I are hoping for a girls weekend next year and she's chosen the Poly to stay at. Which I totally agree with!

Once the pool deck construction starts I believe it will be much like it was when the volcano pool was built back in 2000-2001. They tore up the area from the GCH to the pool and access for heavy equipment came in from the east side path between Rarotonga and the GCH. It basically cut off the east side of the resort from the west side unless you walked back out to the front of the resort. The plans to expand the pool deck and add in a wet play area outside the arcade along with the addition of Trader Sam’s outside Captain Cook’s will have the whole middle of the resort a construction zone. I think because of this disruption combined with the DVC construction they are still trying to decide on when to do the pool area but when it happens I am told to expect to be without the pool area for 8 months to a year. Even those who work around the pool are being told they will have to relocate.

They should just close the resort...nothing "deluxe" about staying in a construction zone.

Does anyone know a time frame for the volcano pool closure? I'm helping a friend plan a trip and she's wanting to stay at the Poly next May. With all this construction and what I'm reading I'm having a hard time recommending the Poly.

Just this morning I got some information that the work to the pool will get delayed until later in 2014. They were going to start some in January and the rest in March with the pool being closed 8 months to a year but this morning they said they believe it will close in May.

Thanks @tikiman I think I'll recommend a different resort.

I was just wondering if they would reduce rates, but we know they won't. We are really going to have to see about this, hmmmm may gave to switch to contemp.

I was thinking the percentage discount should be higher at Poly during this time. Like if most deluxes go for 35% off, have Poly at 45% off with a disclaimer right at booking time about the construction and obstruction of premium views. Maybe also temporarily get rid of TPV rooms and make them LV.
