Construction at Polynesian blocking views?

I'm planning a trip for my daughter who is graduating High school. I always stay at POFQ and wanted to surprise her with a deluxe Polynesian hotel with a view of our favorite place to vacation.

Is the construction and renovations blocking view for theme park rooms? I want to make sure before we spend all of this extra $$

My understanding there is major construction underway at the POLY. I have no idea when it will be finished but supposedly the lobby is even closed right now....and yes some of the water views are blocked....I think I would look more towards CONT or GF this spring if looking for MK and water views.

As a splurge this year I agree with Houston, I'd avoid the Poly and go for Contemporary or GF.

And you will need to spend big $$$ for that theme park view since theme park view is not included in any of the recent discounts. However, if budget allows, splurge on the view and request Tuvalu. This building is past the marina and far enough from the construction that the views of MK are not obstructed.
It's obviously my favorite place to stay ;)

Tuvalu, if you can get it, would be best. Hard to block your view there!! As @Tuvalu knows, I agree that it is the best building (though that is entirely a matter of opinion. Some like Hawaii or Tahiti, etc.)

I don't think you can guarantee Tuvalu, though. You will risk being near the ugly and noisy construction areas if you go to the Poly. You might want to try somewhere else, like the Beach Club or something.

True there are never any guarantees. However, if @T-BoneMickeyFan pays for a standard theme park view, chances are pretty high of getting a Tuvalu request. The only other building currently with standard TPV rooms is Aotearoa, and that only has a couple TPV rooms. Tahiti had the largest number of TPV rooms but it is now closed in preparation for becoming DVC. The TPV rooms in Hawaii are club level only.

Great, sounds like my first deluxe resort expirance is going to be pretty bad. My future sister in law and her family only stays at the poly and my fiancé and I and a few other family members decided to go with them on their next trip in March, theirs 11ppl going total. Found out the other day the monorail is going to be down during the day and now theirs a lot of construction going on, should be fun. I guess this is what I get for letting other people plan my vacation lol.

That's my fear is being part of the construction process while paying a lot of $$

I think it's a legitimate fear. If I could I'd book else where but I'm in the minority in my trip party that's wants to change resorts so I'm stuck lol. Sure it'll still be a fun trip but just not the best it could be.

It's be nice if Disney had a construction discount but that ain't happening lol.

It's hard not to get depressed when you read all the "doom and gloom" posts. However, Disney is pretty good about minimalizing disruptions as much as possible. Yes there will be construction work going on at the Poly, but it will be during the day when most guests are in the parks. The construction areas will be walled off so you won't be walking in unsafe areas. The quiet pool will be available, and if the Volcano pool isn't Poly guests will be allowed to use the pool at the GF.

The monorail will be open during mornings, evenings and weekends. Yes, the 11:30-7 p.m. Weekday daytime closure is an inconvenience for getting to/from the MK, but the boat that runs to MK from the Poly is wonderful and more direct. Since the Epcot line is not affected by the closure, you can walk from Poly to the TTC and catch the Epcot monorail there.

All the rooms have been recently refurbished and are lovely. The beds are super comfy and the bathrooms now have dual sinks.

The three dining locations -- 'Ohana, Kona and Captain Cooks have delicious offerings (including "fill your own Dole Whip" and Tonga Toast!) Tambu Lounge has great atmosphere and yummy tropical drinks (Lapu Lapu, @DisneyDebNJ :)).

The resort is so peaceful at night and the tiki torches give a romantic atmosphere.

Bottom line -- the Poly is a wonderful resort even with the construction and closures. If you expect to have a bad time before even getting there, you probably will. But if you focus on the positives, you may find yourself falling in love with this resort.

(And yes, I am one of the many haters of what DVC is doing to the Poly. I wish that the Poly would remain untouched. But sadly that is not an option. So I choose to stay optimistic. And I have a Poly vacation booked for June.)

Thank you for your very well informed post! You covered the entire resort.

I'm definitely not going in with a negative attitude it's just I'd rather the resort be at 100% including the monorail but stuff happens, I understand.

We do have a dinner booked for Ohana one night so that will be good I'm sure, everyone raves about it.

Over all I'm sure it's still going to be a great trip, just for my first time putting out this much money for a deluxe resort I'd rather have it going 100%.

Its kind of the same thing with first timers and rides and attractions that are down but I've been to wdw so much I'm ok if popular rides are down because I've been there done that with the rides, but I'm new to the deluxe resorts. That's all.

Thank you. I understand your concerns. It won't be as magical. Throw in a week of rain and it will REALLY be less magical!

Two years ago we arrived at the Poly to find the monorail closed during the day, the Volcano pool closed for refurbishment and, best of all, our building without hot water for several different time frames over our stay. Instead of stressing or complaining, we chose to laugh and feel thankful that we were able to stay in a deluxe resort at the most magical place on earth, something the majority of WDW guests will never get to do.

I really respect and admire your upbeat attitude throughout the posts. I truly wish I could be as positive because I have loved the place over 23 years. But the Poly is being completely upended and IMHO not for the better.

The lagoon views virtually throughout the property have been affected to some extent. It is impossible not to notice the almost complete destruction of Sunset Point, the bright yellow booms the fill the lagoon, and the construction equipment. There are now pictures of the lobby doors being blocked to refurbish it and construction fences between Tahiti and Rapa Nui. You have to walk through the construction zone to get to the TTC and look directly at it if in Tokelau on the east side. And more construction, especially around the volcano pool will be starting.

At best I'd tell people to wait until after 2015. But even then it will be very far from what we all know. You will essentially have two Poly's not one Polynesian Village (despite the name change coming). That single Polynesian village concept is an intangible that made the Poly great and it is being destroyed by the DVC.

The Poly is one of our favorite resorts, but this year we're staying clear and going to the BC and GF instead. Too many variables for me at the Poly -- will the construction affect my view, will noise from the construction annoy me, will there be things I can't do due to the construction. The answer to all of those questions might be "No" but I'm not willing to risk my money and take a chance.
