The is the finished product but there are still a lot of construction walls around the entrance area.

What has been added? The bumper posts? Or is there more? Well, whatever it is, I take it this is part of the new security checkpoint system disney is installing in front of all the entrances to the parks?

Those poles look new, you know the ones that are designed to stop vehicles from going places. I didnt recall them in march.

I figured that the imagineers would have come up with something more pretty, because those look as poles hidious as some of the concrete and steel near the monuments downtown. (Sorta relevent Thread Drift knowledge that you might care about - The Fed Govt is spending money to make those security enhancements in DC more prettyand astetically pleasing as well as to make them blend in more. Case in point is the Jersey Barriers that ring the Wash. Monumnt. Ugly!)

I think (i was told by a manager at Epcot when i ased, but that was in March so who knows since then) they might be adding some sort of canopy over the area where guests would stand in line to wait to be checked. I cant tell from the photo if theyre there because that canopy was to be behind the ticket booths.
Sean, did you see anything along those lines?

Those aren't 2 hideous, looks like a 4 inch pipe in all likelihood, filled with cement and covered with a hard plastic shell so as to not look to bad. They are set usually about 42 inches done...and the footing is usually belled out, so I'm sure that could stop a car...at least that is its intent.

Aside from the poles, what exactly has been added?? Are those walls up on the left hand side of the pic??

Those are walls on the left hand side of the pic, just the poles have been added.

While not too hideous, i figured that the imagineers would have "disguised" them for astetic intent, so the guests wouldnt have noticed all that much. Like make them look like the hitching posts or something to that effect, rather than... that.

I'm sure they'll do their job, i have no doubt of that in my mind. You should see some of the stuff along the Mall and by the Capital and WH here in DC. Most of it blends in, but its obvious as to its intention.

I assumed since this was Disney after all, that they would go out of their way to make it just blend in. Unless they want it to stand out, so people are reassured that they are "safe" at Disney.

How would hitching posts in front of Epcot blend in? wouldn't that stand out even more than an contemporary and sleek look like it is now? No matter what they do, people are going to notice this big posts in the way as they head into the park.

I have no idea how they could make them blend in, thats why they're imagineers :D

I am sure they could have made them blend in but that would defeat the purpose. They want the guests coming into the parks to see the posts, not necessarily notice them, but see them. It provides a subconcious feeling of safety more or less. Those post have been popping up everywhere for years especially since Oklahoma City. We all know what they are for and subconciously make note of them and go about our day.

Afterall, driving a vehicle into the front of epcot would probably not be the most effective way of creating havoc there anyway.

I hope this isn’t going to be as extensive as I picture it being!

Honestly, they kind of actually already blend in. I didn't even notice them at first until they were pointed out here  They can't be too 'hidden" or people will run right into them and you don't want them to be too noticeable or eye-catching that they do in fact take away from the look. Personally, I really don't want them spending a lot of money on simple security posts that are OUTSIDE of the park. If for some odd reason they needed to be within the gates of the park, I would expect them to be themed.

Notice the quene next to those posts @ the TTC. It's to keep vehicular traffic from going where its not supposed to.

'Round these parts, they use these huge concrete planters with trees in them, and those would kinda be in the way there at WDW.

I guess the rational is more psycological, the more i think about it. Disney wants guests to feel safe and secure. Plus, there are just some real nuts out there.....
