Concierge Room Questions

I swore to myself this past August after having been to disney twice in 2002, once in 2001, and twice in 2000, that I wouldn't go back until Mission Space/Philarmagic opened. But i can't help it i gotta go back..my wallet be damned. That being said...i'm seriously considering staying at Concierge rooms, but I am unable to decide between the Poly, AKL, and Contemporary concierge rooms...or if i should just stay at a regular room in any of the resorts. If anyone could share their experiences with the concierge rooms, plus and minuses and which one is the best. I've read that each resort's concierge service is very different. Thanks for your help.

well, if "money be damned" i say go concierge. if you're planning on spending a fair amount of time at the resort it'll be well worth the money.

i just spent my honeymoon at the contemporary concierge and we loved it. the personalized service, the view of the MK from the room, and the (very) upgraded amenities made the week very special.

but no matter what, you're going to disney world!

:)

Here are some first hand reports of concierge in different hotels.

I would do it if money were no object ( and count my blessings if I were in that situation). However, if it is a matter of 1 trip concierge or 2 trips without, I would opt for quantity.

Only you know if the amenities are worth it to you.

Happy planning.

We did concierge at Grand Floridian in 2001, it was probably our best vacation ever. Service was exquisite as expected. Horduerves (sp?) all day and tea and drinks, an itinerary mapping out all your PS arrangements and the concierge desk assistants would help you with absolutely ANYTHING you could ever want, it's a lot of money, but if you have it, it is a splurge that is worth it, especially on long trips. Whoa, was that the longest run-on sentence ever or what?!??!

We loved our stay at AKL last year, and we are planning on doing it again this year.

The concierge service, for us, was worth every penny. They helped me with the planning and PS for all our meals before we left. You don't need to call Disney for PS's, just call the AKL concierge desk, they will do it all for you.

They got us in to the Princess Storybook Breakfast, and it had been book full for months.

The food is great that they serve. Hmmm, can't wait to drink another African Smoothie, or eat some of those cinomon crisps again! :slurp:

And the Sunrise Safari is a must do tour. Only available to concierge guests.

For us, it was worth every penny we paid.

Thanks for the posts!

-What kind of food did they serve at the different meal times - I hear the quality varies greatly esp. at the Contemporary.

-I've heard the AKL concierge is great esp. the sunrise safari.

- Stupid question - if you miss the desserts at night - do they put any away for you in your room?

the 14th floor contemporary lounge had:

breakfast...assorted rolls, pasteries, croissants, bagels, cereal, juice, milk, and coffee and tea.

midday...party sandwiches (PB&J and ham and cheese) and other assorted snacks (i really don't remember this one too well since we weren't here much this time of day) plus sodas and juice, beer and coffee and tea.

evening...wine and cheese, choice of three starters from the contemporary steakhouse (different each day), sodas, juice, beer, and coffee and tea.

late evening...assorted desserts (cheesecake, etc.) and cordials, sodas, juice, beer and coffee and tea.

every room has a micro fridge with coke, diet coke, sprite, apple and grape juice, and bottled water. this was re-stocked daily by housekeeping.

the desserts are put away at the end of the shift (10pm) but you *do* have a couple chocolates on the pillow when you come back ;)

being able to grab a quick breakfast before hitting the elevator was a big time saver for us. a couple times we were back in time for the desserts which were very nice and one night we had our share of wine and cheese (mostly wine) and it made for a...smooth and relaxing evening ;)

we were also able to get a seating at cinderella's for breakfast we weren't able to get ourselves and because it was our honeymoon they even decorated the table for us and seated us by the window. not bad for a resturant that was "fully booked" all week.

I heard the Polynesian concierge is really nice, but I wouldn't go there if you are planning a trip from June-September. The Hawaii Longhouse (concierge longhouse) will be closed for refurbishment and they will be using Tahiti. That means long walks to the GCH. For that money they shouldn't keep you so far away from the rest of the resort. Not worth it to stay at that longhouse.

Check my link above ^ . It has details of concierge service at every hotel.

My understanding is that the food is "take it or lose it". If you're not there to get it, they do not make you a doggie bag.

This is one of the reasons concierge is not worth it for some people. If you tend to be dawn-to-midnight park commandoes, your time at the hotel is minimal, and you will miss most of the food.

IMHO, concierge is best for those who want a slower pace and prefer to go back to the hotel during the day.

At AKL, they changed the food and drink selection out promptly at the given times throughout the day. At 10pm, they took it all away.

We always made it a point to stop in before 10pm and hord all the food and drink we wanted for the night and took it back to our rooms.

They had no problem with us taking plates and glasses back to our room. (I took two :slurp: )
