Concerns When Renting DVC Points

Renting DVC points through a broker, but a few questions remain.

Aside from having control over your reservation does using someone else's (the Owner) points impact:
1) On-line checkin in anyway? Can you check in online normally through MDE, and does adding a credit card to the check-in remain between myself and Disney. Or, Does the Owner in anyway have access to these personal details or worse, does it add those details to their other reservations?
2) Can I charge to my room like a normal guest or does this in some way get charged to the owner?
3) Aside from the obvious lack of flexibility and reduced housekeeping, are there any other downsides.

1) Yes you can check in through MDE and your credit card info is secure with Disney.

2) Your card is linked to your room and you can charge with it. Nothing is charged to the points owner as Disney does not have their details, as long as the reservation is in your name.

3) Going through a broker provides reassurance that your reservation won’t be cancelled by the points owner. If this very rare situation occurs, the broker will do everything it can to work it out.

Your reservation with the broker is non-refundable. Make sure you read the fine print and buy travel insurance.

1. No and no.
You can check in as normal.
The owner will know your name, address etc. But not your CC info. That isn’t held on the DVC system.
2. Yes you can charge to your room.
3. As well as the lack of flexibility, the reservation isn’t yours. That means you can’t make changes without asking the owner.

If you want to add the dining plan the owner would need to do that - and you’d have to pay them. A broker will have their own system for that.

You won’t be able to talk to anyone at DVC about the reservation until you check in.

I suppose it’s a bit like using a TA in that the TA has to deal with Disney for anything rather than the client.

Edit: didn’t notice @Tuvalu had already replied! 😊

There really isn't a downside to renting points if you're using a reputable broker. Some things can be less convenient as others above have pointed out but the money saved is worth it.

While the resort room system pulls some of the reservation info from the points’ owner (DDP dining plan, guest names, room request), the guest info is pulled from MDE (CC#, tickets, dining reservations, booked activities, DAS, etc) and none of that ever shared with the owner.

There is no way for the owner to access that second type of guest info. It is locked behind your MDE account to which only you have access. There is also no way to hide room/dining/activity reservations attached to your MDE account, so they’d always be visible to you.
