I just purchased a Canon G2. Now i'm in search of a large storage card. I read some reviews on cards, sometimes they are good, but they are bad too. I'm looking for at least a 256 and up to a 512. If you have any compactflash cards that size, maybe you can tell me some pros and cons to them. Or suggest a card. thanks

actually i think amazon had a 1GBmicrodrive for 300. The 512 is around 180 at the highest i've seen.

I'm looking more along brands, are there goods or bad ones. Is the cheapo going to be crap.

Me too, my hubby hates how much I shop there. I was thinking of getting a 3rd card, just because the price was so good, but I don't really need one and I think my hubby would kill me if I did!

WOW - 128s for $38 bucks, that is one heck of a deal. 4 of those are WAY cheaper then a 512. I recommend going that way.

I am the proud owner of a Canon G1. The camera is incredible. I bought it for myself as a Christmas present when I went to WDW in January 02. I took 2 128 cards and a 64 that came with the camera. I never came close to filling them up. However, I also took my laptop, so that made things easy for me since I downloaded them each night. I ended up with about 700 shots from one week.

And to think...companies supply us with measly 16MB cards. That's just crazy! You can get about 15 pictures out of a 16MB card (on max settings). The bigger the better, for sure! :sohappy:

ps. I love my G2! Just gotta learn how to use all the functions though.

There sure are a lot of settings. My recco - for WDW - is to learn how to switch from auto flash to force flash to no flash. By far that was the setting changes I had most. And with the digital - I would say shoot 2 shots in quesitonable light situations, one with and one without. Sometimes my w/o came out better AFTER cleaning up the pictures with Photoshop.

If you have the means, I would recommend getting an external flash. I didn't in order to save a few $ but I regret it now.

I totally agree! I refuse to use flash since it floods out my pictures in white. Blah! I tried to teachl a friend to not use flash when taking pictures (with my camera) and all of them came out with camera shake. D'oh.
I think i've mastered the holding the camera still technique by now. With a couple of touch ups in PS they DO come out much better! Thank goodness for a LOT of memory :sohappy:

I have an Olympus D460Z and it's a great little digital camera. I took alot of my pictures at WDW without the flash mostly because of "no flash photography" warnings. It worked out pretty dang good. It's only a 1.3megapixel camera, so I have to frame my shots so that I use as much of the frame as possible to get the best res. I can print up to 8x10 with no noticeable compression artifacts at least. My camera uses smartmedia memory. How is this memory different than CompactFlash?

There is a wide range of arguments there, but the general concensus is - both are good.

SmartMedia - uses a little less power when writing

Compact Flash - better legacy support, sturdier, larger capacities.

As far are real quality and speed; really both are good. It just depends on what camera you choose and what format they went with. I am big on Canon, so that is how I ended up with CF.

I forgot to ask...How big/bulky is a external flash? and how much does it usually cost?
