I absolutely loved the band. No fumbling with a room key or fast passes. Water proof, so you can take it in the pool. Just about every server has a scanner to read your band. Plus you can set your FP+ before you even get to the park. Heck, you can pick your FP+ before you leave the house. It does limit you to 4 passes a day, but I would take the band over the alternative anytime.

I've heard lots of good reviews from folks. Just remember, this is the internet, a vast majority of it seems to be only to pass along negative views of things. Positive experiences either do not share, or just aren't as "juicy" as the negative. Try and go in with a clean slate and rate your experience based on how it performs for you and you'll likely be pleasantly surprised.

We had a similar wonderful experience at the beginning of the month.

We are going 9/11 thru 9/18, and opted for the magic bands, really easy to make FPS+. But it is a test, and only time will tell, but so far so good, we all enjoyed picking out our magic band colors and names. I thought I would hate it, having to plan my FP's, but it seems to really help, and you can choose and modify times in the group if you wish, which helps out. At least I will not have to ge up early just to get a FP for a popular attraction, as I already have it planned, the only negative I see is that there is a limit, but am I going to ride the same thing over and over, yes, but the wait times never really seem that bad except for a few, and those are the ones I got FP+ for. Only 15 days for the real use of them, looking forward to it.
