College mascot competition at MGM

Right now at MGM, the top 15 or 20 college mascots in the country are competing for first place on the Indiana Jones Stage in MGM. I only know this cuz I'm involved in the mascot program here at Michigan State and our mascot, Sparty is competing in the competition. He placed 7th in the video competition and qualified to attend the competition. Hopefully he'll do really well. I really wish I could have gone down to see this. They have to perform skits in costume and are then judged.

Do you know if the University of Florida mascot was there? Its a Gator named Albert.

Ha...I love mascots. I was in the Univ of Wis band. We had this tradition of knocking down and piling on any mascot that was dumb enough to come into the band's seating area at football games. (we sat directly behind an end zone in a huge area...so we had room to run around or sit or lay or goof off).

That is, until, we broke the collarbone of the University of Purdue. Ever since then, mascots are scared to come near us.

And let's not forget when the police had to tear the band off of us after our mascot was attacked (not playfully but maliciously) by a cheerleader from Michigan State. Some of you might have seen the video of that floating around. He knocked our mascot down right in front of us. Little did he know there were about 60 people within 15 feet of him who wouldn't hesitate to open a can of whoop @ss on him.

Not sure what other mascots are down there competing. I just wish I would have been able to go along. None of the other escorts got to go. They only took the two directors, the guy who was going to be in costume and one of the new Spartys so he knows how things work for next year.

Fievel-LOL about attacking the mascots. Sparty's always getting attacked. Last night at the hockey game I went to with him it was by tons of kids. I went to a wedding with him once and some drunk guy tried to pull his costume apart. That's really too bad about Purdue's mascot. My best friend is going to Purdue next year and he's always telling me how much better their mascot is than Sparty. Yeah right! Sparty's much better and can beat anybody up if he wants too.

Hehe...I hate that Purdue mascot anyway...but not as much as that stupid Goldy Gopher....



I do have a lot of respect for mascots. Bucky Badger always had to do pushups for each point the team scored at football games after each score. In the rose bowl years I attended, he'd be doing 50-60 pushups a game in the 90 degree heat. They are definitely athletes.


Now cheerleaders, on the other hand......hahaha:zipit:

I just found out that Sparty placed 5th in this competition. I'm so excited. That's better than he did in the video part of the competition. I can't wait until the Escort meeting on Thursday cuz I'm sure we'll get to see the video of the skit at least once!

My school, the University of Oregon, had the best mascot ever. DONALD DUCK, thats right we actually had permission to use Donald Duck as our mascot. How cool is that. But I think this year they finally changed it to some weird/cool Green Goblen (Spider-Man movie style) duck costume. I saw it in ESPN magazine I think. This may sound weird but picture the Goblens costume from the movie and then add a big Oregon "O" to its chest and a big duck bill on its mask. Trust me it looks cooler than it sounds:lookaroun
