Coins in the Water

Thinking specifically of IASW, what happens to all the coins that are tossed in the water in the attractions at WDW? How often are the rides cleaned out? Where does the money go? Charities? Eisner's pockets? And how much would an average take bring in? Or the money on top of the building at BTMR. Loose change is all over the place and I've tossed a few coins just like everyone else. Where's it go?

If i remember correctly: Some charity.

Almost all fountains and such function this way. That's why people give people dirty looks for taking from a fountain.

Back around Sept 11th my local mall's fountains had signs saying all money collected went to the red cross.

I REALLY HATE it when a kid is taking from the fountain and his parents see what he is doing but just ignore him!!!!!!!! Why can;t they teach him this is wrong? I was at MK once and there is a fountain in Fantasyland near the back of the castle and a kid was doing this as his parents watched then carried on talking. He said to me and the other people who were passing, 'Look I got money!'. I looked at his parents who were making out and I said why are you letting your kids turn into a criminal? That wiped the smile off their faces

Disney has an organization that collects all the money and then dontates it to various charities. They do other fundraisers as well. All the change thrown in the streams etc at Animal Kingdom Lodge is donated to Disney's wildlife conservancy fund.

This is right from the pages of Disney Magazine:

"Some of the money tossed into various waterways at Walt Disney World goes to Quest, Inc., a nonprofit organization that employs people with disabilities, and some is placed in our company's Ears to You account. Cast members who are Disney VoluntEARS apply for grants for the organizations with which they volunteer, and the money is presented to the nonprofit groups each year at a breakfast honoring the volunteers."

There ya have it. :)

someone once told me that a coin tossed in a fountain is a wish and all the coins you see in a fountain is somebodys wish. if you make it into the fountain on the first toss your wish will come true. then all of the wish coins are collected to make someone elses wish come true.

Disney encourages people to toss money. While standing in line for BTM on saturday (45 min), I noticed that they had metal plates on the roof. There were tons of change all around and in the plates. I'm glad the money goes to charity and not as a part of Eisners yearly bonus.
