Coaster Intensity Levels

My wife and I are planning our next trip to the world. We were wondering just how "thrilling" some of the coasters are. We have enjoyed Big Thunder (thought it was pretty mild). We loved Space Mountain (rode it multiple times). We also enjoyed the Mummy (at a park that shall go un-named). We are wondering if RocknRoller Coaster and Everest will be too intense for us. Personally, I don't mind the speed and the turns but height is an issue ( I do the Tower of Terror but am not always comfortable). Anyway, could you please rate these coasters in terms of intensity and offer any other comments that you think would help us.

Remember that WDW caters for "families" - RNR when compared to Big Thunder and Space is the next level up - it is faster and with inversions. However, if you were to compare it to some (at that park that you didn't want to mention) it is quite tame. If you can handle inversions then go for it.

Everest - don't know - riding it for the first time this August :sohappy:

You didn't say if you have been on it, but if you can handle Splash Mountain, you can probably handle Everest just fine. Yes, EE is a larger drop (but it does curve), but it also is faster after the drop (you circle the mountain twice).

Since you say you don't love high places (don't blame you), when on Everest, don't look to the sides as you go up the main lift hill. Just keep looking forwards, at the mountain.

Everest is a great ride. I have been on several times and loved it each time. I went with some friends recently. One of them likes small roller coasters, but does not like really rough rides (she's OK on Space, Splash & Big Thunder). She enjoyed EE.

Later in the trip, she went on RNR. She did not like this one very much. She said it was rougher than EE, because you do have multiple inversions (which she hates) and I think a corkscrew at the end.

I think you should go on EE at least once. It is amazing to compare how much smoother the ride is to most other coasters that have been built in the past. Then, if you hate it, no problem, you know never to go on it again. You do not go upside down at any point during the ride. Just backwards.

On RNR, if you are unsure about whether you should ride, you might want to surf the internet and find some reviews and spoilers to help you decide. (I always pass on that one, since I don't like inversions, also).

1. Mission space - old school version, inner ear probs, make me sick.
2. RnR - fast take off and inversions
3. ToT - Multiple drops
4. EE - The height and the backwards thing, but smooth
5. Test Track - get pretty fast through the turn and toward the end.
6. Space M - Dark and squirrely
7. Mission Space - New edition
8. Soarin' - very smooth and terrific, some might not like being high off the
floor though.
9. Splash M - big drop, more kid friendly
10. Thunder M - pretty tame, kids love it.

Just an opinon, that and $7.00 will buy you a gallon of gas.

Kennygman, your evaluation is right on with my opinion, although if you ask my oldest, he'd rather ride RnR than Space Mountain, but that's more of not knowing what to expect that he's senses are on level 10 when thinking about SM, but I look to change that later this year.
Our big goal is to tackle Space Mountain, while looking forward to EE.
He also loves Mission: Space, but once was enough for me.

I'm pretty squirrely about heights. Soarin' gives me pause, but I like it. I just have to remind myself that I'm not really that high. I've ridden Everest twice. I really hate going up the hill, but the rest is worth it. I just keep my eyes shut and it's over pretty quickly.

I don't find the height of RnRRC a problem at all, since it is all in the dark, like Space Mountain. RnRRC is my absolute favorite of them all. It's a smoother ride than Space Mountain, and I love the speed and loops.

The absolute worst ride I've ever been on at Disney is the Astro Orbiters on top of the TTA. Oh my gosh. I thought I would die. I don't know what possessed me to think I could just hop on and enjoy the ride. Maybe it was the fact that I was in line with a bunch of kids and having such a great time on everything else, but I thought I would just absolutely die until I finally got my feet back down on earth again. It was way way way up there. Aaaaaack!

I have a friend who is extremely afraid of heights and as a rule of thumb- never rides rollercoasters.

Big Thunder Mountian is something she can tolerate.

Splash Mountain is a no-no.

Tower of Terror makes her almost pass out when she walks past it!

However, Space Mountain and RNR, because of their enclosed nature- don't affect her fears in the slightest. She wanted to ride them over and over, simply because she couldn't see the drops. Seems like the anticipation is worse than the actual thing happening.

Ride Everything, Nothing In Disney Is That Harsh. I Think It Depends On You, I Ride Everything No Problem, My Girlfriend For Example Will Never Go On Tot Ever Again, But She Will Go On Rnrc 4 Times In A Row. I Dont Like Huge Outdoor Coasters Like Great Adv. N.j. Or Busch Gardens ,va. But I Love Everything In Disney, My Worst Experience At Wdw Was Probably The Astro Orbiters(like Mentioned Above) My Whole Body Cramped Up Because I Couldnt Even Out My Orbiter, Hell.......... Take Some Dramameine(sp?). Have Fun

I've got a question. I don't mind being shaken around or going fast or height, but I don't like that drop feeling in my stomach. I guess you'd call it freefall. Does that exist in EE at all? Or is it just higher off the ground and a smooth fast ride.

Like for instance, when you go on EE and are going down any drops, are they like splash mountain in the sense that you don't get that freefall feeling?

I am not a fan of heights either, but RnRC does not bother me at all. I think not knowing how high up you are is key. Also, as others have said, the ride is very smooth. Having the bright lights and loud music is also a distraction from the inversions and drops. I would definately give it a try if I were you. It's one of my faves. I have not yet ridden EE, but am so stoked to do it in August. I did think I was going to die on the AstrOrbitors though. I had my 5 year old with me, and I kept neurotically thinking that she was going to fall out. I don't think I will do that one again (even though DD is now 8).

DisneyMarg--I couldn't agree with you more about Astro Orbiters. I will do anything at WDW. I went on that 2 years ago and was paralyzed the whole time. My husband was laughing at me and teasing me the rest of the day. It was way too high and I couldn't even enjoy the view!! Never again.
