Club Management degree = job at Disney?

I'm considering going to college for Club Management (find the program's site here: http://www.sullivan.suny.edu/academics/progdesc.asp?Code=GB). It includes "golf, racquet, sports, and athletic clubs; health and fitness clubs; spas, resorts, and country clubs; conference and convention centers; and casinos." So my question is, in the wide world of Disney World, do you think I would be able to get a job doing something there with this degree? My dream is to work at Disney World, or at least for the Disney company. Thanks!

Job/Degree

As a professor, I can tell you that no degree guarantees a job... you have to get the education you crave and know that the job hunt is separate. Disney was my brother's dream job; he worked there every summer and for a year before getting an Ivy League MBA. But he never got a career job with them... (their loss!!!)

Now that I said THAT...
Suggestion -- ***Network like hell.***

Find out who the faculty know (for example, at FSU, we have a degree in Hospitality, and they're connected to several resort chains and place alot of grads there)... find out where the students @ that program often get internships....

Steer your ship, and don't expect anyone to build your reputation.

Good luck, I'm here if you need anything.

I think a career job would be something like.. being an Imagineer, as oppposed to being the person loading people onto the Wedway. From what I learned in school, a "job" is like, your part time job at the supermarket, whereas your "career" is what you go to college and get a degree for. So, my "job" right now is stocking shelves at my dad's hardware store, but in a few years, my "career" will be teaching. :) Hope this helps!

Thanks to those who replied. :) I killed the idea of majoring in Club Management or Business Management. The Club Management degree was at a college that although only 45 minutes away, is hard to get to in the winter. And let's face it -- there is absolutely NOTHING to do up in Sullivan County! The Business Management degree was an AAS degree, which, according to the department head, would only earn me $20,000-$30,000 a year. AND it takes a ton of math.. I hate math. :)

I've settled on Teaching. Initially, Elementary Education (1-6) with a concentration in History, but I hope to eventually also get my 7-12 certification. I'm even starting college in January! I want to travel for awhile, and then settle down in Florida.. in Celebration, of course. :) (I still have to be close to the magic, even if I'm not working for it) I just keep telling myself "If you can dream it, you can do it," silly little Horizons song, but it's true. :)

Great!

As a history prof, I give you a BIG HIGH 5

Maybe you'll get a PT/seasonal job @ WDW and.... who knows? The average person goes through 3 career changes. Having a broad background and being well spoken will take you FAR.

All the best

Tell me about teaching in Orlando.....what district will you teach in? Do you know their payscale? I teach in Miami Dade for 3 years and might make a change somewhere in the future. Any info is appreciated.

Hmmm....career job...degree...well let's see, my job right now is teaching music lessons privately as well as classes at a middle school and I am a paid actress at a few dinner theatre's. ...I sorta quit my 4 year college when all these offers came to me last year (I'm only 19) so technically my jobs right now would be my career...but I don't have a degree...is it the degree that changes the word "job" to "career" ?? ...When I do go back to school I will be going to a tech for an associates in early childhood development...but I will still be a teacher and an actress as I am right now...hmmm, I guess I'm just special lol :) My career just came earlier than others??? I don't know but goodluck to you!!! Teaching (kids) is one of the hardest yet most rewarding job anyone can do. If it's truly in your heart to make a difference in someone's life, than go for it! But you gotta do what is in your heart. Is the only reason why you changed your mind on club management because of the money? I'm going to tell you right now that my intended major was elem. Ed, but when I found out all the CRAZY HARD math classes I had to take, I switched my major the very next day. I don't do math...at all. lol ...but good luck! :) :)

I don't think he/she's teaching yet. Just choosing a major for college.

I would take basics for the first year or two. Then do the CP. Go back and then start work on your major classes.

I wish a college degree meant a job... in the past 9 weeks I've sent out over 400 copies of my resumé, and I've had 6 interview total... the farthest I got was second round.

So I got 2 part time jobs and have started work on a second degree....
