Close to joining DVC....

My fiance and I are going to be joining the DVC in the July/August area after we finish a few home projects. I have a question that I forgot to ask the rep I talked to so hopefully someone can help me out. If we join after the midpoint of the year do we still get the points till December? Say I join for 220 points in July would my cycle go from July 2007 till July 2008? Or is it always from January to December? I am asking this in order to be able to possibly roll points over for our honeymoon. I know it is a basically pointless question because I can borrow from our points in 2009 but I'm curious

Lets say you join today. and if you buy 220 points. You get 2007 use years and get 2008 in dec. You can roll them over. and have 440 points next year. I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! WE JUST ADDED 90 MORE POINTS.:ROFLOL:

As the other poster suggested, it depends on your use year when you purchase, which does not always match the calendar month that you purchase.

For example, we bought 250 AKL points with an April use year on April 27th this year. We had 250 points to use between our closing date this year, and the end of march 2008 (when our use year expires).

We also took 250 an incentive of 250 "developer" points that had to be used within 7 months. We are using those points in September at Saratoga Springs, and will bank the 250 "normal" points for 2008, and we will have 500 points to use next year. We are staying for a week and then we are bring in the families for 5 days as well in either a grand villa or a 2 bedroom + a 1 bedroom.

Sometimes you can buy something with an earlier use year, which can give you the benefit of having more points sooner, it just depends on what is available at the time of the purchase.

Thanks for the information it is really helpful. Scorp how did you get the "developer" points? Is this something I should ask for when we sign up or will they tell me if they are available?

It was an incentive offered after we took the tour, in an effort to get us to commit. We had to commit within 72 hours of our vacation. A majority of the time (maybe all?) they offer them.

We were offered the points, or a discount ($8 per point) in lieu of the points. Since we wanted to do something big for the extended family early on, we decided to take the points.

We will spend 750 points in 9 Calendar months starting in September, and won't borrow any from the next use year.
