This past Sunday, the town of Lake Worth, Florida experienced a power outage that affected nearly 8,000 residents, but it wasn’t necessarily the 27-minute lack of power that had them concerned. Rather, it was the message the city’s electric company sent out to its customers during the outage, which warned that… zombies were coming?!

No seriously. This really happened.

The alert read, “Power outage and zombie alert for residents of Lake Worth and Terminus. There are now far less than seven-thousand-three-hundred-eighty customers involved due to extreme zombie activity. Restoration time uncertain.”

The bizarre alert, which was sent out at 1:45am on Sunday morning, prompted Lake Worth’s public information officer to assure that zombies hadn’t taken over the city.

“Lake Worth does not have any zombie activity currently and we apologize for the system message,” Ben Kerr clarified.
