The DLR in Anaheim has always been different than WDW in Florida, and now another good reason to leave the Disney bubble while visiting the Southland.

>>Cirque du Soleil and OC Fair & Event Center announced today that the Costa Mesa fairgrounds will be the official home of Cirque du Soleil’s Big Top touring production for the next 10 years. There are currently five shows on the schedule through 2028 with the first one opening Feb. 21.

“The OC Fair & Event Center is an outstanding site for our Big Top touring shows as it is well-known and perfectly located in Orange County,” said Jörg Schlegel, director of tour development at Cirque du Soleil.<<

>>“Luzia” is the first show included under the new contract between Cirque du Soleil and the OC Fair & Event Center. Performances will run Feb. 21- Mar. 18. Tickets start at $50 are on sale now at cirquedusoleil.com/luzia.<<

So now you can take a day to visit South Coast Plaza, shop and have a meal, then attend either a Cirque de Soleil show, or something at the Segrestrom Center of the Arts.

I saw my first Cirque show there years ago (in the lot at the corner of Fairview and Fair).

What this really means is that you no longer need to wonder where their tents are going to pop up in Orange County for the next ten years or so. I guess that's good for both Cirque and the fairgrounds. It doesn't make much difference to me other than the fact that I now know that they won't be setting up at the old El Toro MCAS, which is much closer to my home.

The nice thing of the Fairgrounds is the fact between the OC Fair and the weekend Swap Meets, there are lots of permanent restrooms with large capacity, plus food facilities will greatly add to the overall show experience.
