I'm not sure if i'm in the right place for this, but it seemed the best fit.

does anyone have the lyrics to the circle of life, including the swahili ones in the beginning? I searched online, and there is one version that is on all the websites, with a translation, but they can't be right. First of all, many of the words they have written end in consonants, which doesnt happen in Kiswahili. Also, the translations are just wrong. One of them I believe was "there comes a lion" however the word for lion is simba, and it doesnt appear in the song. "there comes a lion" would really just be "ilienda simba."

I know this is very random, I was just curious because I haven't been able to find a proper translation and wanted to try to work on one myself. it's jsut hard to listen to the song and completely understand the words. Im much better at translating by sight than by sound. So again, if anyone has the lyrics to circle of life, i would really appreciate them. thank you.. or as theyd say in east africa "asante sana!"

It's not Swahili. It's actually Zulu (maybe influenced by a couple of other languages as well). Here are the Zulu lyrics (loosely translated) to the first part of the song:

Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [There comes a lion]
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama [Oh yes, it's a lion]
Nants ingonyama bagithi baba [There comes a lion]
Sithi uhhmm ingonyama [Oh yes, it's a lion]
Ingonyama

And these are the lyrics to the background chant:

i think its really interesting that the song is zulu. Do you know if the movie just took a bunch of elements from all different African languages? Because simba and rafiki both mean something in swahili. (lion and friend respectively). thanks though, those were the lyrics I was getting on the internet, but for some reason i thought they were singing in swahili. oh well.

This is just a guess, but maybe the song is in Zulu is because if they were in Swahili, and the song was about lions, it would say "simba" in the song, and maybe Disney didn't want that for some reason. Just a guess! :wave:
