Christmas Decorations for your room!?

I recently heard that some people bring their own decorations for their rooms over the holiday season when visiting Disney....getting into the holiday spirit.

Has anyone here ever done that...or seen anyone else do that???? How crazy do people go?? (NO, we have NO plans to bring a christmas tree to Disney World for our hotel room!!!:))

Thanks!

Many people do that. They bring trees and ornaments, lights for the room and balcony, stuffed santas, etc. Its the holiday season and they want to celebrate to the max.

I would like to do a little something for our room, but I'm limited in packing space due to flying. Probably have to limit myself to a couple strings of lights, maybe my stuffed Christmas Eeyore....

We'll be bringing a small 3 foot tree and basic tree decorations (no lights) with us (we're driving). While we won't be actually staying at WDW during the week of Christmas, I can't imagine not having a Christmas tree at all during the holiday season. And since our vacation is for 17 days, well being the Southern gal I am and love Christmas as much as I do I can't fathom not having one. Besides whoever the lucky family is to stay in the room after we leave is going to get to keep the tree and decorations, as long as mousekeeping doesn't take it down, which I'm hoping a note left in the room with the tree will prevent that from happening.

Alright heres what I bring. First we bring a 3ft prelit tree. Fits in its own box so it dosent take up all that much space. Box of ornaments...they are fragile so I have a small tool box that I use in which I carry ornaments, ornament hangers, spare bulbs, extension cords, holiday nightlight, tree top...ect. Wreath for door and one of those over the door hangers.

Also if your a eggnog fan bring it with you. Our first trip to Disney for Christmas was about 4 years ago and I called to POR before our trip and asked if they carried eggnog. The guy had never heard of it,he even asked someone else there and thay hadent heard of it either.

Some othere cool things I have seen was white lights on the balcony at GF, Lights on the balconys at Swan and Contporary which you could see fron the MK. Candles in the windows at POR lights around the windows at POR.

You might think there wont be that many people who decorate but you will be suprised.

Remember you will need a extension cord to get power over to the windows. A 15 ft cord works great, 9ft will work but its a stretch and you will trip over it all week. Buy some inexpensive ornaments from home, you can buy some from Disney but you will spend big bucks and most ornaments there are large and heavy and just dont work well on small trees.

Do you mail your stuff down ahead of time, or do you drive?
We're staying at POR and I want to send down a couple of boxes of decorations/presents for the kids. How far ahead of our arrival should I mail it, and/or how long will the resort hold it for us? Thanks to anyone who can help.

We bring only carry-on luggage, so I bring flat things like Mickey Santa gel stick-ons for the windows, some Disney ornaments stuck with suction cups on the windows, a couple of Christmas stockings. Since the kids are grown and it is just the two of us, I want something festive. We did this at POFQ last year and lots of people stopped by the window and we could hear them say, "Oh look..."...It's fun.

There's a group of DVC members on another fan forum that actually organizes a Christmas tree swap amongst members. They find out who is checking in and out each week at a particular resort, then leave the tree at bell services for the next guest in the chain. I guesss the final person either takes the tree back home, or tries to cram it into their Owners Locker.

Last December, took the whole family to Boardwalk Villa and shipped a 4-foot tree with lights and decorations ahead of time to the resort, where it was waiting for us. Placed it on top of the TV stand. Then, because I'd included shipping home material in the box and tape, and had carefully opened package, it was easy to wrap up and ship back home.

Christmas Stockings

I've read that the Contemporary's new remodel where the TV now hangs is supposed to represent a fireplace of sorts - does it have a mantle-like shelf that I could use to hang stockings? It's kind of hard to tell in the pictures I've been able to find.
