Christmas Decorations at Fort Wilderness

I've read that the people who camp at Fort Wilderness at holiday time like to put up Christmas lights and thought it would be fun to go check it out on our next trip - can anyone confirm that it still happens? And if its something that's still done, how early in the season does it generally start? Thanks!

Yes, it still happens. Not sure how early they put them up, but we always go over there a couple of weeks before Christmas and check them out. There are quite a few people who put quite a bit of money into their decorations. It is something to see if you are there at that time of year.

We were there the week after Thanksgiving last year and they had started putting them up. I figured people decorated about the same time they would their home. We have been closer to Christmas before and took the wagon ride to see what everyone had done and it was amazing. One site had at least a dozen inflatables the size of their camper. Another had made a full Santa's candy land with a 10' decorated tree that ringed their campsite. It was all beautiful but I kept thinking where did you fit all of that in your RV? The one I remember from years ago was someone had "wrapped" their pop-up camper and put a giant bow from like a car dealership on top.

Since this is a guest thing and not a Disney thing, it's hard to say what all will be up when. But if you happen to be there and have the time, it is fun to go through and see it all!! :)

For those that do a long-term stay over a couple of months during the "seasons" they will start with the Christmas decorations right after Halloween. We were there the last two weeks of Sept in 2010 and the Halloween decorations were everywhere! You should also see resort decorations around the settlement and outpost just like the other resorts decorate. I would be looking for those just before Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the comments - and pictures! We're visiting the first week in December and the fact that it's a guest thing and not a park thing had me wondering how early the decorations tend to go up. I appreciate the feedback.
