Hey guys,

I was just curious if anyone on here did the Chip n Dale half marathon relay a couple of weeks ago? I was curious how it went, and how the logistics worked for the second half of the race - how did you get to the start line and did you start at the same time as the marathon started or was it later in the morning? Would you do it again? Thanks!

To answer your questions:
1.) shuttle busses are provided to transport runners throughout the morning from the start line area to the relay exchange zone. You could also take the monorail, as long as you arrive in time for runner 1's arrival. Personally, I ran leg 2 and took the resort bus to the start line at 4:00 am. I walked over to the start line spectator area to see wave 1 go off, then I waited and was able to see my teammate enter Epcot from the monorail platform. I took the desigated bus after that.

2.) Start time for runner 2 is based on runner 1' pace, corral placement (& start time). I had a rough idea of what time my teammate would finish the first half in, and allowed for time appropriately to reach the relay exchange, do bag check, etc.

My only complaint about the whole experience was that when runner 1 finished they were awarded their medal at the exchange zone and were not permitted back into the secure area at Epcot. It would have been nice to have runner 1 greet runner 2 at the finish line and receive medals and photos as a team.

Due to the 20th Anniversary marathon next year, I will not run the relay, but will consider the half/relay in 2014, as I did this year. I found it significantly easier to train for 2 halves than it was for Goofy.

Is there a special medal for people who run the relay AND the half?

No special medal. One for the half and one for the relay.

I worked out great for me because I got to run though MK on Saturday and AK and HS on Sunday (leg 2). This was my 7th year running in the January Marthon Weekend. pectatrs both days, particularly on Sunday for the second half of the course were the largest I've seen.
