Child Locator Devices

Has anyone used any for their kids while in the parks? I'm not looking into anything elaborate (i.e. not dropping the $ on Brickhouse), but I was considering one of the Mommy I'm Here bears...probably the blue ones w/ the alert feature (vs the pink or brown model). We're already going to be using Safety Tats + take pics of the kids w/each outfit change and use easier to pick out hair decorations (we usually go for big flowers)...but looking for that extra peace of mind. Considering DD4's propensity to lag behind in the supermarket- it probably would come in handy for more than just a trip to Disney.

I have not tried any of the locator devices but one of the first things you will want to do is introduce your daughter to a cast member....any one will do....and tell her that if she gets separated to find anyone with a white Disney name tag and they will take care of her. As you might have guessed Disney excels in dealing with children whose parents have gotten lost.:animwink:

I'm sure it happens quite a bit. The temporary tattoos we're putting on them will have our cell #s in case a cast member finds them, but that's a great suggestion to introduce them to a cast member. Something like that should totally click with the older one. She's pretty fearful of strangers, so showing her the name tag would be an excellent point of reference for her that might make her feel a little safer if she wanders. Thanks again!

Also, make sure she knows NOT to go looking for you. The biggest thing is, if you get lost, STAY where you are or go to the nearest CM. You don't want her wondering around.

That said, look into the wrist leashes. They aren't as embarassing for a 4yr old and can also keep people from walking between you (You'll be amazed how many people will walk between a young child and their parent).

For my kids, I make them each lanyard tags. The tags say If Lost, info inside. Pull the paper out and unfold and there's my child's name, age, weight(for medications in case of accident), allergies, hotel, parents names, and cell phones for every adult in our party (we are usually traveling with g.parents and my brother). I include hotel incase phone numbers are messed up. My thought was then they could look up our reservations and get contact info. I put them in the plastic ID tags with clear packing tape over the openings so they don't come out or get wet. I also include a small pic so they can make sure the child matches the tag :D My son will prolly have a MedAlert bracelet this year so that helps.

If she tends to fall behind, that's probably from fatigue. A stroller rental would be a good idea :)

Have you looked into those cute animal backpacks for kids? They, too, have a leash attached, and the kids seem to like wearing them. I've seen lots of kids with those at WDW.

Thanks for the suggestions. The girls don't care for the harnesses (the reaction is something similar to an alligator death roll), but we always travel with our double stroller. Thankfully, both of them are more than willing to ride if we're pressed for time or if they're tired. The safety tats also accomplish some of the same things as the lanyard idea. Just considering that extra ouce of protection. Thanks again!

I've heard of people buying each kid a specific color glowstick and having them wear them at night.

I realize that many children may be wearing glowsticks/glow necklaces, etc.. but it would be helpful at night looking for a specific color. Just a thought and it would be pretty cheap too.

Where do you get those tattoos you're talking about?

I bought our SafetyTats on Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=10A8S48RP2ZZ24G2KXKT

but there are a handful of places online that sell them and there are a few varieties. I think you can also buy directly from SafetyTat's and customize them.

A pp also mentioned glow sticks. We actually bought from a wholesaler. We got LED necklaces, LED rings that can be looped into hair clips, a pkg of 100 snap and glow sticks in assorted colors, mouse ear head bands to snap in the glow sticks, and a Buzz Lightyear with a spinning LED feature. I probably went a bit overboard, but at least they'll have unique glow accessories.
